"Very nice place to stop for a short period of time and check out the history. The main building has a lot of historical stuff in it, including a video that you can watch. The person there was very, very accommodating. As a retired school teacher I find it amazing the environments that people taught in before our time!"

"Had a birthday party in the event center for my grandmother. There is a very nice and newly renovated kitchen. In addition, there’s a fireplace (with wood supplied) which made for a nice ambiance. The bathroom facilities were clean. The ranger was very accommodating and pleasant. Museum was closed, but I did take a quick tour of the old school house which has ALOT of original architecture. Very cool to see and touch such historic things."

"What a wonderful little place to visit! Not only will you get a very important history lesson on the video (watch as long as you'd like), but you may be so tuned in that you'll spend a good hour and a half like we did, but the gift shop and museum area will keep you entertained as well. When you make your way out to the grounds you'll be met with a beautiful archway and well manicured landscaping. The schoolhouse itself will have you believing that you've actually stepped back in time as you sit on one of the benches with those children under the instruction of Sam Houston himself!"

"Sam Houston Historic Schoolhouse is a quaint Historical Site that provides incite into the world of education in the early days of the United States. Sam Houston is a well known person in Tennessee and Texas. His ancestors created Houston's Mineral Water in New Market. Sam was one of the Governors of Tennessee and then Texas. He was an avid explorer and quite enjoyed teaching at this schoolhouse. The property has original artifacts in the museum, the schoolhouse, a short wildflower walk, and a gift shop. Me and my daughter very much enjoyed this historic site and she said she would like to go back. Beautiful spot. Nice place to learn a little more about Tennessee and have a picnic in the shade of the trees. It is located reasonably close to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park's Townsend entrance as well so that makes it quite accessible to everyone visiting the National Park."
