"We contacted Rehorn on a fairly straightforward repair to our van that involved repairing and repainting a panel after our encounter with a rain gutter. We live 7 hours round trip (without stops and traffic) from the shop and have no options for repair in our community. Based on customer reviews, we chose this shop. We asked whether we could send photos via email to receive an estimate, fully understanding that the final cost might be higher once the van was in for repair. Our service rep, Chris Bellen, led us on for weeks with various reasons why the estimate was not sent. Today, he finally shared that Rehorn would not provide an estimate without laying eyes on the van. We would be required to drive the van up for an estimate. Rehorn should be firm upfront about not providing estimates using customer photos if that is their absolute policy or better yet, provide open estimates that clearly state additional costs may be added if more damage is discovered onsite (unless they just do not want out of county business). We were concerned about this process so asked another shop for a back up. They happily provided us an open estimate with this understanding within days of our call. Offering a conditional estimate is a fair approach for the shop and does not burden customers who live outside a ship’s community with a full day trip for an estimate that takes minutes to prepare. The other thing we shared is that our van is brand new with less than a thousand miles on it. It is not like there are hidden damage that we were not disclosing. It was disappointing enough when we clipped the rain gutter on Day 1; Rehorn’s poor response only made us feel worse. Photo is of the straightforward repair/repainting below awning."
