Mel's Drive-In

"Mel’s drive in is a diner in the modern day with the vibes and atmosphere of another era. From the menu to the interior to seating, it gives old American diner vibes. The food was overall okay and fast service. Food I ordered the fish and chips and it was good. Good amount of breading for the fish and had a good side of cole slaw. Nothing special about the fries but gotta have it with the fish. Atmosphere The American diner atmosphere is the best part of this restaurant. They have the neon lights and jukebox all around. There is the counter seating in front of the kitchen and there’s a mix of booth and table seating. The noise level can be loud at times. Pricing Pricing is average for the food. Service Service was good and staff was nice. The food came out quickly after we ordered. Other"

"As a San Francisco native I grew up eating here when I was little! For birthday party's or when I was being taken out by my parents for a treat. It is a sad day to say that this Mel's is a shadow of it's former self. Everything was sad and underwhelming. I barely could finish everything. The mayo that came on the side has very obviously been sitting out for a lot longer than it should. Which set a precedent for this whole meal. The burger was very bland and no one asked me how I wanted my burger cooked. The veggies were not very fresh either. The fries were alright and so was the soda at least! Everyone that came with me to eat that day also had a complaint about their food. Especially for the price that we paid!!! The location very obviously hasn't cleaned their floors in many many years and the menus and tables were also dirty. Mel's use to be amazing when I was younger everything was fresh and the service was amazing. I definitely am going to try the Geary location and hope that it can redeem the Mel's name. Until then the mayo and everything kind of grossed me out..."

"Everything was great! Nikki our waitress was very friendly and informative. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and she recommended with shredded short rib. It was absolutely delicious. Wife ordered the country combo with organic eggs. It was cooked perfectly!! If you’re in the area, come to Mel’s. Food, Service, and atmosphere is great!"

"Nice to visit a classic like Mel’s. Even though this is a “Next Generation” Mel’s (the last original location was demolished in 1976) it still retains all the charm and character as the originals. The staff are clearly used to bustling traffic as the food comes out fast and hot. Great for groups or solo dining at the counter. Food is good. And yes, the chicken soup is as good as they say."

"Another amazing authentic American Diner experience!! The service was friendly and efficient with a very warm welcome. The atmosphere was vibrant and fun. We picked a table with a jukebox and our server happily changed some dollar bills to quarters for us. This made for good fun while awaiting our food. We both opted for the classic burger, I had blue cheese and himself had pepper Jack - both were absolutely delicious and cooked to order which is one of my favourite things about burgers outside of Europe. Himself tells me his malt was the best he has ever had!! We had great fun and great food and would suggest it’s definitely worth a visit for lunch or dinner."
