About the Business

Palmyra Parks & Recreation

Palmyra Parks & Recreation, located at 1000 West New Street in Palmyra, Missouri, is a vibrant community institution that has been serving the area for nearly 40 years. Flower City Park, established by the Palmyra Jaycees, has grown and thrived thanks to the support of the local community and generous donations from individuals and organizations. The park features a variety of amenities and facilities, including the fair grounds, which were incorporated into Flower City Park in the 90's.

The Parks and Recreation Board, comprised of nine Palmyra citizens appointed by the Mayor, oversees the management of the city's parks and facilities. The park operates through a combination of rental fees, donations, grants, and a city-wide sales tax. One of the highlights of the year is the Independence Day celebration on July 3rd, which includes a spectacular fireworks show sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Palmyra.

Another annual event held at Flower City Park is the Marion County Flower City Festival, featuring 4-H projects, livestock shows, indoor and outdoor exhibits, a carnival, and various entertainment options. The park also hosts fundraising events to support worthy causes throughout the year. Reservations and rentals for park facilities must be made in person at the Park Office in the Sesquicentennial Building. Visit Palmyra Parks & Recreation for a fun and memorable experience in the heart of Palmyra.

"I have mixed reviews. The pros are: the park itself is very nice and very well taken care of. Plenty of stuff to do. The cons are: the one baseball field is hard to navigate with a very steep hill. The biggest issue is with the new pickleball courts. The intention was great. The finished project is horrendous. Due to the fencing, around and between the courts, makes these courts unusable. Maybe they should have consulted with people who actually play the game."

"There are 3 differnt places for children to play and they all have something different so if the children get bored just take them to another playground. The frisbee golf course is amazing and all the sport coures ex( basketball, pickleball, tennis, and baseball fields). The Sesqul building is amazing for weddings and events, and if you just want to go walking there is an area that is wooded with a trail to walk through. Amazing place would recommend to go if you are looking to have a little fun."

"We attended the tractor/truck pull for the Marion County Fair. Parking was easy/close, kids under 12 free, lots of food vendors with options, allowed coolers with anything but glass in them. Great event, professionally run, quick moving and great view from anywhere in grandstands."
