"If I tell you a secret, do you promise not to tell anyone else? If you're in the Burlington, Iowa area, and you like beautiful campgrounds with many opportunities to enjoy the pleasure and joy of nature, with a variety of outdoor activities, as well as peace and quiet for an afternoon nap, be sure to stay at Big Hollow Recreation Area. (We stayed in August of 2023)"
"We wosh to thank The campground host Colette, who is by far the best host we've ever had! (We do a lot of camping) she has once again went above and beyond. My bf and I went artifact hunting on a place she knows. We got a geod.granite, arrow heads and more. Best birthday week thaxs to a wonderful host who takes the time for her guests. See you next time big hollow!... much love from Chicago ❤️"
"We stayed in the off grid cabin over Memorial Day weekend. What a wonderful experience it was! We chose the off grid cabin because there weren't any camping spots open but wanted to stay here. One of the things I love most is that this cabin was far away from the campground so it truly was like having a cabin in the woods experience with no one around. We couldn't hear any park activity... at all! Some notes: *Bring a thin air mattress or foam. The mattresses provided are hard. They are regular height beds so if you bring a really thick air mattress, you'd be up really high off the ground. *The solar lights work in every room and have light switches *Bring gallon jugs of water for dishes, etc. There is a cistern with hand pump but the water that is gathered is rainwater from the gutters and was a little brown. *Porta potty is provided and clean-yay! * There is firewood for sale right near the Porta potty. 2 sticks for a dollar and they were good size! You can find kindling in the woods. * There is a gate that you can close to keep cars out. There was only one person that accidentally drove back and they quickly turned around. * There is enough parking room for a few vehicles and a boat. * The rental of the cabin comes with a Canoe, paddles & life jackets. It looked dirty so be prepared to do a little cleaning if you want to use it. It is parked at the end of a trail near the cabin. *There are 2 ponds on either side of the cabin-we caught fish in both of them. *Bring gnat / mosquito repellent *Relax and have a great time"
