"I stayed there a couple weeks ago. I overdosed and an ambulance got me from my house and I stayed at the ER for about 3 days waiting for a bed to be available at this place. Some nurses were nice, others were completely awful . The doctors did mot help my issues I had told them about my issues at home and they did nothing to help. On the website it claims that children will be allowed outside, but this is just not true. Me and the other kids spent about a week without going outside. Completly cut off from everyone except for mother and father, who are the root of my issues."

"My child went there for help with emotional and mental distress, it was a very scarey time, I believe they wanted to help her but others wanted her out before she could tell the issues. For that I feel they should have looked out for the interest of the child. Within 2 weeks I believe of that event I had to rush her to university of Iowa ER, but anyway atleast they were able to get the little info this hospital had to help start more care. They were great at helping me get her hospital information for court. The end...."

"I’m absolutely disgusted with this facility. They sent me a $2,400+ final bill after Genesis did nothing to help my son. They rushed him out of their facility after less than 24 hours because they needed his room. They used the excuse his issues were behavioral & not mental. I’m sorry, but no mentally okay person is going to wrap a cord around their neck because they didn’t get to go with their friends. My son told the mobile crisis counselor in Dubuque that he was suicidal & he knew how he’d do it. Mental illness & behavioral issues go hand in hand. It’s pretty sad the nurses/doctors at Genesis were easily fooled & manipulated by an 11 year old when he told them what he knew they wanted to hear. Genesis gave my son pop, ice cream, let him play video games and hangout with little convicts. It was basically a big sleepover for him. He enjoyed his less than 1 day there and his “stay” did not help his mental status, behavior or teach him a lesson. Genesis & the mental health system is a complete joke. It’s sad they’re all about profit and not actually helping children & families. Even my son’s regular therapist said Genesis completely failed my son & our family. I can’t imagine why people don’t seek mental issues help in this country. I would never recommend this facility to any family seeking help for their child."

"My reasoning for giving this establishment my rating is no matter what you cannot cut family members off. I tried contacting my niece and they said I wasn’t able to speak to her. I understand the process for getting help and the progress it takes to get better but you cannot NOT let the loved ones speak to family no matter the circumstances...ESPECIALLY when she is requesting to speak me and we already made a 16 hour drive to come visit and was denied. I’m currently making arrangements to have her released and be seen some place else.....telling me a retired military combat vet that I can’t see or speak to my little niece who wants to see and speak to me!?!?!? Not happening"

"Took my daughter there through ER. The ER doctor and psychiatrist on call agreed she needed to be admitted. Less than 24hrs they discharged her! My daughter is 13 and they said they couldn't provide her treatment for self harm! I would not take your child if you truly want help. They are a joke!"
