Reviews
"I have 4 boys. Three already graduated from Wheeling and one entering as a freshman in the fall. My three WHS graduates all attended grreat universities. U of I in Champaign, Rutgers in NJ and Clemson SC. The STEM program at WHS is amazing and I am impressed with the knowledge and experience of the teachers . They challenge the students and encourage them to achieve them to achieve their goals. WHS has a great music program, robotics and debate team. As with any HS, the key is to get the kids involved. The athletic program is the weakest link at WHS. However, it really gives the kids opportunities to try all sports."
"I've had 3 different boys in 3 different schools in District 214; Buffalo Grove HS, Hersey HS and Wheeling HS. I attended Hersey HS way back in the late '70's. While I found the administration the easiest to deal with at BG, much of that had to do with my son's counselor Maxine Jacobs. Hersey HS had the most difficult administration to deal with from the registrar down to the counselors, none of whom were terribly helpful. The principal of Hersey did his best but I believe even he was bound by the restrictions of an extremely unhelpful and rude District 214 administration. As for Wheeling HS, for the most part I've had a positive experience with the exception of the counseling staff. They are difficult to get a hold of and the secretary in the office never, ever answers her phone. Nor do I often get a call back. The focus now seems to be getting kids to pursue STEM careers and quite frankly most kids have neither the interest nor the aptitude to do. As well, it marginalizes all of the kids who either don't want to go to college or want to start somewhere other than a 4 year university. Admittedly this has a lot to do with state and national governing policies, procedures and financing most of which the district has no control over. Having said all that I am very happy to be saying goodbye to District 214...this time I hope it's for good."
"Though our kids are still in the early grade school years, we've had a positive experience thus far, with things such as their STEM summer program, and park district sports. People are going to make positive and negative comments, I say take all comments with a grain of salt."
"This school sucks. Period. It's bad. People are rude and disrespectful. There's always going on something in this school. It's not only Wheeling students who complain, but others around too. Half the school staff in the building don't know what goes on behind closed doors. Especially dean Williams. If I could I would show proof. Everyone is fooled by his fake nice personality. He is a total disappointment. He harasses people and make them feel total worthless. He bring students to pain. He's a monster. And there is so much more people/staff that I could name. This school was a living hell, and not only for me but others too. this school doesn't deserve to get even one star."
"My alma mater, and neighborhood high school. The multicultural student body provided a latino dominated culture where even, usually, the white population was even a minority. Overall the teachers were excellent, at least for the honors and AP programs. The engineering oriented programs as well were amazing but the opposite can be said for the atheletic department. My four years there, there was nothing I was particular proud of when thinking of athletics but that wasn't such a big part of high school I guess. Still keep in touch with the teachers because they were so awesome."
