"Doctors, mechanics, and lawyers..... I put off leaving a review until I got confirmation from a better lawyer (I was seeing for another matter) that what we experienced with Olsen was WRONG. We hired Olsen in October '22 to help my son see his 7-month-old daughter that the mother was keeping from him. We filed a petition for shared custody on 10/27/22. The respondent has 20 days to respond. In the meantime, a temporary order for visitation was established, so he at least got to see his daughter every other weekend. The mother didn't respond within 20 days, but Olsen waited until 12/16/22 to file the notice of default. That's 50 days, 36 if you don't count weekends. This notice gives the respondent another 10 days to file a response. If no response is filed, the court is to grant our petition. A response wasn't filed until 2/8/23. 54 days. 38 if you don't count weekends. When I questioned Jennifer as to why she was doing things this way, she told me that "The court doesn't like to grant default petitions in family matters" and "They just don't do it". I quoted the law to her, citing the code and all, but this just caused her to become snooty. Unfortunately, we were desperate to see the precious little girl that had been kept from us, so we got the lawyer that was available first and followed her instructions to a "t". Obviously, she wanted to draw the case out as long as possible so she could get paid. And wouldn't you know it? The case ended at the same time as our retainer. The parents ended up coming to an agreement (the mother couldn't afford an attorney) and signed willingly, giving them 50/50 shared custody. Jennifer sent us a letter the day after the mom finally responded. "Since this Answer has been filed we cannot now pursue a default under Iowa Law." Their billing is also suspect. The invoices were sent to my son, and he didn't yet have the experience of being screwed by someone you're paying to perform a service for you, so he didn't keep most of them. I did have to show them a receipt they'd given me to prove that I'd paid them because they either hadn't made a record of it, or lost it. I tried to make the numbers on the invoices make sense, but they just don't. The money is one thing, but the time with his daughter, my granddaughter, is what really matters. And Jennifer, the lawyer we were paying to help us, assisted in depriving my son his rights to his daughter. I think Jennifer could be a great lawyer, but she's too greedy."
