NorthShore Neurological Institute

"Over the years my Father, John Ress went to Northshore neurological institute. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2000 at Northshore. He saw many doctors. Out of all the doctors for neurology he only met one that wanted to diagnose him properly. He was Dr. Maraganore and he is no longer there. My father lived with his neurological condition for 23 years. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's, but later it was discovered by other doctors that he did not have true Parkinson's. He rarely if ever shook and he would have benefited more if he was ordered more physical therapy. He basically stock piled tons of meds they gave him because the side effects were so bad. None of the meds seemed to work for him. He was given a few different in the beginning and then they pretty much threw in the towel and didn't give him any new meds to try nor did they order physical therapy. Only his primary care physician ordered him physical therapy often. He also worked out a lot and never gave up fighting to stay active. The last few years visits at the so called institute were a joke. No guidance, no new medication, no proper diagnosis, no therapy, no hope. I don't know why they boast they're an institute and have innovative treatments. They have a few docs that are not helpful at all. This is not a good place to go for Parkinson's. I would not recommend anyone going there. They called my dad a goner for over a decade and he proved them wrong just by exercising. He didn't take carbidopa levodopa in the beginning, but held off on taking it for many years because he knew it would lose its efficacy. All I can say is look for alternative doctors and therapies. Most importantly look for a doctor that will truly work hard to help you. Sadly, we finally found one but my dad had a cardiac arrest and passed away in 2023 unrelated to Parkinson's."

"This clinic is criminally terrible. My partner has been waiting since April 29th 2022 to be seen for his seizures for the soonest appointment they had which was August 8th 2022.... While waiting, he's had 2 more seizures and we still don't know what's causing them because we've been waiting for this appointment... He's been unable to drive, and both of our lives have been significantly more difficult because of this new condition that we have no idea why it's happening. Today, July 18th 2022 we received a phone call saying that they are cancelling his appointment and cannot get him into the schedule until December 2022. I cannot even believe that they are allowed to disregard lives in this way. This place needs to be shut down if they really don't care about people the way they've just disposed my partner. Our hearts are broken and our lives are changed forever. We will likely end up homeless if he continues to be unable to drive, as his jobs require him to operate vehicles. We had so much hope that being treated here would move him forward on a path of healing and health, but instead we're met with grief and total lack of empathy. I hope every single human at this clinic knows that they have ruined our lives and WASTED the last 3 months of our lives waiting for an appointment that would never come.... we could have been spending that time finding a doctor who actually follows through on appointments... I hope everyone at this clinic is met with the same treatment they provided us when they are in severe medical need."
