Kings Gate Apartments

"I have been renting in STL for over a decade and have never had an issue with a landlord... Until I met the landlord at King's Gate. Where do I start with this guy? The occasion that stands out was when he implied that his maintenance people are not very smart because they are not college graduates. Ironically, his maintenance guys were very polite and professional and one of the only good parts of living at King's Gate. Furthermore, the apartments are falling apart. We had to call for maintenance on water leaks at least ten times during our 3 year stay. One summer, the pool was closed several weekends in a row due to a bright green fungus or mold of some sort. All of the materials used to build the place are the absolute worst quality. It is also in a really sketchy part of the neighborhood. I'm not sure if it's the bus stop basically on the property, the highway within hearing distance, or the impoverished area right behind it, but the ambiance does not reflect Kirkwood living. Would not under any circumstance recommend to anyone."

"I've lived here for years and it's turned into a dump. The decline began with new management. Eric in the office is rude, smarmy, and antagonistic toward tenants. He's nickeled and dimed me at every turn and I've heard from other residents that their entire deposits are gone at move-out for his trumped up reasons. It's advertised as "luxury" but the materials in the apartment are cheap and the appliances are outdated. Maintenance is friendly and prompt, but having to call them every month was a pain. There was never any exterior power washing or carpet cleaning as was promised at move-in. There are a total of 6 pool chairs currently for near a hundred residents, I've never seen them cleaned or replaced. Frequent break-ins and the roar of the highway only add to the ambience. The amount of rent compared to the quality makes you wonder where the money is going, as it's certainly not being invested on improving the place. It'll get worse before it gets better, stay away"

"We are trying to find a very nice property to move to, and yours came to mind. It's very well maint, it's in a good neighbor, great location, the problem as I see it is, for $1,000 I expect more room, its way to small, and at $1,000 I want enough room to move around in."

"Never fixed a thing that we requested; the front door had a huge gap, half of the stove burners didn't work. The apartment was in rough shape when we moved in, and we had to show pics to not be charged after moving out. I've always gotten my deposit back, and I requested a walk through with the manager (which she acted as if that was an unusual request) and she said everything looked great. Went by to pick up mail and they had put brand new hardwood floors in, the next day I get a $1200 bill for the 'carpet'. When I called, I was told 'oh your pet peed all over it' ummm we never had a pet of any kind? So they will try and screw you, no matter what, out of your deposit. Also literally saw a shooting outside my window first few months there, so it backs up to a real sketch neighborhood. Never had an issue anywhere I've lived before, but both maiteince and management are MIA in this building, so if that doesn't bother you, or them trumping up charges, if your standards are real low, then maybe this is the place for you."

"They manage renting out a condo unit in Kirkwood called Kirkwood Manor; scheduled appointment, called in advance to confirm appointment, no answer. Drove all the way there, no one showed up. Waited 30 minutes. Still no one, called and no answer. They just lost my business. If this is how they manage their business I’m sure it’s a nightmare. Beware all new applicants."
