"I'm irritated with them. My insurance tells me my policy covers chemical dependency/ behavioral health, but then nm tells me that my insurance tells them it doesn't. So I don't know who's lying."
"Id skip this place, go to any other location. Linden oaks in Naperville, streamwood or alexian bros. They dont help with cognitive behaviors reguardless to their name ? Since when did cognitive get taken out of mental health help? It makes No sense. ***if you bring small kids with because you dont have a sitter theyre gunna judge you. Not all the people there suck, some are just sneakier than most. And dont worry about the HIPPA stuff- signing its useless —it gave them consent to report to dcfs over concerns like the mom smokes or dad vapes !?& do not do any assessments with MaryCarol, she clearly was very incompetent at her job. I love CDH but this place is Only good for Na/AA meetings- nothing else."
"Dr. Greenwald & the case therapist Amanda were exceptional. The nurses go above and beyond to make you feel as comfortable as you can in a foreign setting such as inpatient. Naturally, no one walks into a hospital needing assistance feeling their best. I left the hospital reassured everything was going to be fine, not just from the staff, but I felt it myself. I even gained insight for a new hobby I never would have considered if I didn’t get the help I truly needed. I never felt like the staff was trying to overly medicate me, which was a concern of mine and I know for others. If anything, a more holistic approach was taken. If someone is struggling with their mental health, I suggest coming to CDH. At the very least you will be guided back on track to that healthy, happy, safe place we all want to be. Thank you, CDH."
"I attended BHS at 21 after trying to battle bulimia, depression, anxiety, and PTSD for almost half of my life. 8 years later and I am still telling everyone I know who is struggling with their mental health that this is by far the best treatment I had ever received. It changed my entire life for the better and the staff are so kind, supportive, and compassionate. I am truly so thankful that I was able to come here when I needed it the most."
"I loved this place. The classes are interesting. The staff is very kind and listens to you, asks how you’re doing frequently, and all that they really ask of you is that you attend groups and don’t leave to smoke during groups or meetings. I loved the variety in the classes. I could only stay for detox because I have Medicaid and they no longer reimburse northwestern, which is unfortunate. It was the only treatment place I’ve ever wanted to stay at. What made it different than others? Well, I had a thorough assessment by Dr. March and I took some tests and we figured out my medication lists after I met with a psychiatrist as well and I actually got to do something really cool with a trauma therapist. It was an MRT session and was an interesting experience. Ann was always available for me to speak to and that’s never been the case at any other facility. I have no idea why the rating is so low on Google but I PROMISE it’s a fantastic place! In detox you get your own room, and if you have private insurance you can stay for inpatient and (I’m not sure, but I believe Medicaid covers PHP and IOP but they recommend you do inpatient first. Please check with them as I’m not sure). I love that you have the freedom you have here. You can smoke whenever you want (like I said, not during meetings) and you can be in your room, lay down if you don’t feel well, the nurses will always help you out. I think a lot of the bad reviews are coming from people that had Northwestern BHS as their first “rehab”. So many of the people I was there with were first timers complaining about everything and I was thinking “are you guys serious? This place is awesome?” I seriously wished I could’ve teleported them to a facility like rosecrance, and then they’d be on their knees to return back here. What’s good is you have TIME to focus on yourself and recovery (really if you’re inpatient.) If I didn’t feel well or was just super tired and needed a nap they might’ve checked to see if I could return to group but most of the time they just let me sleep. They got me an alarm clock so I could wake up whenever. I wanted (as long as I ate breakfast which is highly encouraged 7:45-8:45). Having a room to myself was so nice but I do know if you move to inpatient you MIGHT have a roommate which is pretty standard for inpatient facilities but I never heard of any problems. They have private showers and you can do your laundry whenever you want. You can ask for stuff like razors if you don’t have one, deodorant, soap, and laundry pods and dryer sheets. They have fans too for white noise which completely changed my sleep and I slept through the nights after I got one. The best part in my opinion about this because I have so much PTSD with authority is the freedom. You can walk wherever you want within the facility (not past the front desk because that’s for PHP and IOP patients usually unless you’re going to the gym or to see the doctor) and you will rarely be questioned. You don’t have to be escorted like a toddler which made me so much less anxious. They aren’t constantly watching you and that’s what made me feel really on edge in other places. Unfortunately I need to go to another residential before I can come back and do PHP but that’s alright. Ann listened to my frustrations and sometimes disrespect towards her in group therapy and took it very well and was always so nice and helpful to me. They have phones on both ends of the hallway that you can use whenever (try not to in the middle of the night or past lights out or during groups unless an emergency comes up). Kelly, Robert, Ellen, Chris, Adrianna, Belinda, Nick, (a woman who cleans, I forgot to ask her name ): ), I all absolutely adored and the rest of the staff as well. Kelly made sure I got my meds and said I could call anytime if I need a change or help with anything. There’s a patient lounge with a tv and snacks and dining room w tv and wii. (Running out of characters) love this place! Don’t listen to bad reviews!"
