"One month ago I set up a 6 month Well Baby checkup appointment for my baby. The receptionist took all my information because he is a new patient. One hour before the appointment time, my husband called to tell me he had a voicemail from the doctor telling us to call back but not saying why. I called back & got nothing but voicemail. As I’m dressing my baby to leave for the appointment, I get a call from the doctor’s office telling me that when the appointment was made over a month ago the secretary thought my baby was some other existing patient. Apparently nobody ever checked the name or birthdate or SS #. She explained that her doctor is not accepting new patients. Then she asked if my baby had been vaccinated and I said “no, my baby is six months old and we are transferring care from another doctor in whom I have no confidence.” The conversation became increasingly circular because she didn’t want an unvaccinated baby but did not want to accept a new patient. I finally got brusque with her and told her to figure out if any of the doctors in her office accept new patients so we can get established with a physician and set up a plan of care for my baby. At this point I flat out said how unprofessional it is for her to call me an hour before the appointment to cancel because her office had my baby scheduled under some patient’s name. She tried to argue with me about it but her office had over a month to sort this out and they do this as I’m trying to get out the door for the appointment. Then she tried telling me I was scheduled with some doctor I had never heard of and this was somehow my fault. I went over (again) the previous doctor we had seen. It was an infuriating conversation. The woman was supposed to call me back to let me know if any of the doctor’s in her office are accepting new patients but I’m still waiting for that call. Honestly, if they can’t keep patients straight to organize a simple Well Baby appointment, how they be trusted with anything more complicated?"
