"My wife needed emergency care in November of 2012. After everything was said and done we started receiving the bills from the hospitalization, We got three separate bills for different services. Two of the three went through my insurance without a problem. The third, from Dubuque Emergency Physicians, said she was turned down because, as the statement said, she didn't have insurance. So I called the 1.800#(Yay, outsourced billing) and we started this dog a pony show about figuring out what was wrong with my insurance. They told me to call my insurance company, of course. I called my insurance company and they said they received no bill of service from DEP on that date. So I called them again to give them the right information. A few months pass, and again we get a bill saying she wasn't insured. Same dance, same verse with the same results. Fast forward to September of 2013 and the issue STILL hadn't been resolved. Months upon months I called and spoke with reps and supervisors but got nowhere. The last bill stated if I didn't pay the amount we'd be turned in to collections. Not wanting our credit destroyed by this inept company, we paid the bill and I pressed on hoping for a refund after the insurance paid their end. FINALLY, they sent the right information and a good chunk of the bill was covered. Now, I'm in a new struggle. I was told in November of 2013 that I was due a refund and it would be here in 5-6 weeks. I called in December to check on the status and the lady on the phone said if I didn't receive my reimbursement by February 1st to call back. Of course that date came and went with no check. I called. "You should see it in a week or two," the guy said. Two weeks later, no check. Called again, this time asking for yet another supervisor and she said they would escalate the issue. It was a Monday and she said to call her back the next day and she would have word of some kind. Called Tuesday, no answer. Left a voicemail. Wednesday, no answer, no call back. Thursday, no answer and I finally gave up on her and called the 1.800# again. After being on hold for half an hour, the lady said she spoke with the supervisor and she was "in a meeting" and would call back when she was done. Nope, asked for another supervisor. If she wasn't going to call back the first two and a half days, another hour wasn't going to matter. The new supervisor says she's going to look into the problem and get back to me next Tuesday. I'm not holding my breath. So, in short(too late) if you ever see my dying in the street, take me to Finley(or wherever) or just leave me there. Don't take me to Mercy just because I don't want to deal with another year and a half's worth of phone calls and frustration. UPDATE: The lady actually did call back, only to tell my wife she hadn't heard anything and that they would call back whenever they heard. Then a miracle happened. We got the check on the 27th. Checked the postage, it was mailed the 24th. Almost a full month when we were suppose to get it. The check was issued the 31st of December and it took them nearly two months to mail it. Wut. We cashed the check and I'm thrilled to be done with them."
