"Starting out as a small volunteer organization dedicated to testing the water quality of the lower Rio Grande, this group now hosts activities year round to raise awareness as well as cleaning up the environment. They pushed the city of Laredo to pass the first ordinance in this country to ban the nuisance of disposable shopping bags. Although it was overturned by a small minded minority, the meaningful action affected hundreds of people for up to a 50 mile radius to instill the habit doing the right thing when it comes to protecting our environment. That is powerful and it works"
