"Accounts receivable scammers are the worst. Financial aid is awful. overall lackluster experience with this university... The education acquired is not worth the more than $60,000 in lifetime debt I am stuck with. Sociology courses stress the value of education, yet the university does not care about student support, retention, or graduation rates…..only taking money! Family housing is disgusting with hideously hazardous mold and asbestos issues."

"Horrible grad school experience. Don’t go here for an experimental psychology graduate degree unless you’re willing to receive a mediocre education from the messiest program I’ve ever seen. I also attended here as an undergraduate, which was a generally positive experience, except they are extremely bad with mental health. As a freshman, I had to take incompletes in some of my courses due to experiencing a lot of death in my life as well as being abused by a romantic partner. Despite having MULTIPLE doctors urge me to take incompletes and additionally sign off on my doing so, I still had my scholarships taken away. When I tried to appeal this, I was told that there were “insufficient circumstances” behind my incompletes. Honestly a garbage institution that does not care about it’s students and I’m glad I left it behind. As if this isn’t enough, administrators fought tooth and nail against paying grad students a livable wage even though we all were far below the poverty line with our stipend for teaching and being research assistants. It should be noted that administrators would give themselves HUGE raises while we couldn’t even afford doctors visits or even food most days. I can’t stress it enough- this university does not care about you. It only cares about taking your money."

"Helpful and generally very under-rated professors. A few aren't so great, but many are wonderful and more than happy to help during office hours. Classes above the 101 level are very reasonably sized. The staff is stressed and over-worked but I don't think that it is their fault. I find that the best professors are at the community college, so if you can take a class there, instead, it will likely be a bargain and you will receive more personalized attention. Like any university it has its strengths and weaknesses, but my experience was positive, for the most part. They also have many wonderful visiting speakers, artists and musicians. I wish there were more varied options as far as accredited programs. However I really liked and learned from most of my teachers. It really depends on how much effort that you, as a student put into engaging with the material and seeking help with your professor if needed. Many professors went out of their way for me, once they knew who I was and that I was trying my best, even if I was completely lost. I think at many larger or more famous universities they don't have as much time for you, and at NMSU, where some departments may be lacking in the newest, most state of the art, fancy stuff, you will have all the attention and help that you need to reach your academic goals and reach for the stars as far as going to conferences and finding advice on getting published or whatever else you need, which lead to professional achievement that made it special for me. I am so glad that I went there."
