"I have been driving 17 years, 10 years with my last company. I do not job hop and was looking for a company near my home just to have a terminal near home. I went to Marten Transportation Desoto TX location for Orientation. Location was perfect and was really excited and looking forward to starting with them. First day of Orientation one of the Orientation staff named Chris started off being a straight up butthead to us drivers first thing in the morning with one of the rudest condescending attitudes that I had seen in a while. When we got into the terminal we were sat in cubicles and told to do modules on the computers. That was a never ending thing for 2 days. Michelle is the woman who runs Orientation however, she was busy in the office 98% of the time. Unless you were needed for something, you had no human contact with these people for the majority of the Orientation experience. Which really let's me know that at Marten Transportation drivers are really just a number. If you think that you are going to get paid what your recruiter told you. Well, think again minus 20 cents from that is what you're actually going to make per mile. Anything on top of that is considered a performance pay. Which is determined by how big of a yes man you'll be is the vibe and insinuation I was led to believe by their staff. You are to get 34 hours home for hometime. With that little time at home don't think that you can make that truck more comfortable for you to be in for such an enormous amount of time of which I being expected of you. Even having an extension chord at Marten Transportation could get you fired let a lone making it comfortable. When the Operations department came in to do a presentation his only words were "do not be on your phones, we had to let someone go because he was watching a movie on his phone". Then he was done and said to have a good day. Now I agree with it not being a good idea not to be on the phone. However, this is Operations. Your dispatcher and not one word about actual operations at Marten Transportation. The only person to talk to Orientation with substancel, time and effort was Mark who works in the parts dept. However, it was basically a long list of things that would get you fired if they seen these items in their inspection bays which is not limited to but includes that extension chord.. lol. Your own GPS etc. I was really hoping for the best but not really expecting to much. But, I cannot work for this company. I wouldn't be happy and it would feel like a micro managing dictatorship. Oh I almost forgot that they want that sleep apnea testing even if you already been examined by an actual doctor and have been cleared by said actual doctor. Even with when that actual doctor gave you a 2 year physical that including checking for sleep apnea.That is my experience from Monday Jan 22- Jan 24 2024. Goodluck to all drivers. "Marten is not one of the best companies 2 drive for they are paid 2 lie 2 u just 2 get u there 2 help pay a truck note. They trucks only run 63mph some my do 64 r 65. They will only pay you zip code to zip code. You don't get paid for any extra stops. They will always lie and tell you they lost your paperwork You can only make a thousand dollars at Marten. The Dispatcher is the load planner, customer service rep, etc. So put it all together If your looking for a job Marten is not it. Marten have new trucks but only certain people get them Swift Warner JB hunt run faster then Marten trucks. Folks don't waste your time, u will b mad. You will loss your family your house and car working for Marten. They will hurry u up outta orientation and on the last day u will sit all day until 6pm then they will put u out. U will most likely go somewhere else and recover a truck that will not get paid for its not worth it. You have 2 report bk 2 the yard every month for inspection this is stuff u learn on your own. Marten is not the best. If you like loossing out on things drive for Marten. They don't even care about your family they don't care about any holidays u got 2 work. Marten is a slave driven company! Everyone that works for Marten is family.Marten is just like all other companies they are a revoling door. Driver's leave daily. Don't waste your time."

"Well supposedly they ran my application the young lady said 13 months ago you hadn't ticket and an accident in a non commercial vehicle. But before that incident I had not had a ticket in 20 years. Never got a call back. That's the way they do business"

"Been working here for 1 year. Been good so far. Had a motorcycle accident recently and took some time off. Not one person has contacted me to even follow up. Don't mean I won't go back, just makes one think how people are."
