"My only disappointment with this place is that you couldn't explore more buildings. However, it was still an amazing site to see. The museum is in the former powerhouse and has mining equipment along with a rocks and minerals display that will blow your mind. Or at the very least, tickle some senses. You can explore a limited area outside and can see in one building. The rest is off limits. I'd still do it again. And the fee for entry is nominal."
"A really cool place to learn the history of The Mineral Area. All kinds of stone, mineral samples and fossils from prehistory. Guided tours on the hour only."
"Missouri Mines State Historical Site is a very interesting location. The museum tells the story of over 300 years of lead mining in Missouri. The staff is very friendly and willing to answer any question you might have about the location or the mining. The exhibits are genuine. The mineral exhibit shows you exactly what the minerals look like coming out of the ground; not only from Missouri but other locations around the world. Unfortunately I'm unable to give a higher rating as there is no video presentation of the history and the gift items are limited to the actual minerals. The entrance fee is reasonable, however considering you are paying the same amount as other state historic locations in Missouri, this has less to offer. But hopefully over time, with better funding and investment from the state this museum will be brought up to the standards of other locations."
"Very educational, even with being in the mining industry. Highly recommended for a group or family trip. Found it on my way to Arnold, Missouri. Stopped by on the way back to where I'm staying. I will be making another trip soon to visit again. To me it's worth the 1.5 hour trip. The guy at the museum answered questions from myself and others visiting. Really friendly and knowledgeable guy. Weather conditions will be a factor in visiting the old mine site. Again highly recommended. Plan for stay 3 hours possibly longer, to be able to take in the site and visit the museum."
"We loved this place way more than we thought we would. Museum visits and learning can sort of be that way. The men who worked there certainly knew all there was to know regarding the geological samples and equipment on display! Really impressive knowledge pool. We took kids with us who are really used to the digital age and internet of things and they were all intrigued and enjoyed the presentations. If you can plan this as one of your stops, you really should!"
