There are many beautiful places around camp too. The stars at night are unlike anywhere else due to the small amount light pollution."

"I came to Camp Shalom with some Catholic school friends in 6th grade and had the time of my life. Camp was the first place I had ever seen someone my own age pray out loud in front of other people. I met lifelong friends at camp and still remember some of the faith conversations I had with friends and camp staff as a middle schooler. I have never found another place that embraces the silly and the weird quite like Camp Shalom. Camp is a place where you can be you, and instead of being made fun of or ostracized, everyone loves you for it. We need more places like that in our world. Full disclosure: I've also worked at Camp Shalom for a long time, but it's not for the money (I could make a lot more doing something else) or the prestige (there's nothing prestigious about taking out leaky trash bags or mopping the floor for the 254th time). I've worked at camp as long as I have BECAUSE it's the place I've described. Every parent in Eastern Iowa should send their kids to Camp Shalom!"
