"My experience at the Hunan Market was unexpectedly delightful. I visited the shop as a way of exploring different Asian markets and grocery stores around where I live. Hunan Market was by far the best I've visited so far. Immediately upon entering the store, I was greeted with a warm, friendly smile by the owner, Julia. She was wrapping up with another customer, but asked me whether I'd ever visited the store before. After telling her I hadn't, she offered to give me a tour and answer any questions I might have. She walked me around and told me about all the different in-house products they sell, such as dumplings, pork bao, and so much more. Julia asked me many questions about my own tastes and preferences, making sure to tailor fit her recommendations to what it sounded like I enjoyed eating and cooking. I ended up purchasing a bunch of homemade dumplings with various fillings, which turned out to be delicious. Julia even gave me a great tip on how to boil them straight from the freezer. I tried that once and pan seared them the next time I pulled them out of my freezer. My family loved the dumplings and so did I! My favorites were definitely the beef & onion and kimchi flavors. It's so rare to enter a store nowadays and be welcomed with such warmth and kindness. Obviously Julia wanted me to have a good experience and make several purchases (which I did), but she was genuinely kind and a pleasure to speak with. I wish more business owners and employees put in this type of care and attention to make sure the people walking into their store were helped and taken care of. After talking about food and the different meals we both enjoy, I showed her some photos on my phone of different meals I've cooked in the past and she was very impressed, which made me proud. In the spirit of honesty, my visit was several months ago from the time I'm writing this now, but I do plan on going back before too long. Those dumplings were wonderful and I'd love to help support such a kind, welcoming small business serving up great cooking products, kitchen advice, and delicious homemade food at an affordable price. "Great place to have Taiwanese food! I had a Taiwanese beef noodle soup today. It was so delicious! The beef stew was cooked right on points not too tough, not too soft, some texture to chew on, with heavy tasteful soup, yet no MSG, very little salt. The noodles were tasted delicious too, I felt the beef, noodles and the soups were all natural, as I had not leftover in my mouth, not the same as I had those in regular Chinese restaurants. I believe it was the best beef noodle soup I have ever had for the last 5 years, since I had one in Hong Kong. It is highly recommended. They also have hand-made dumplings too, but I didn't have big stomach to try on this time, save it for next time, hope they are as great as the noodle soup."
