Owned by Jamie and Cameron, along with their three daughters, Helfer's is a family-run business that values tradition and community. Jamie, the youngest daughter of the original owners, has fond memories of growing up in the bakery and is excited to continue the family legacy.
Our ever-changing menu features a variety of sweet and savory treats, all freshly made by our expert bakers. "My wife had heard about the bakery when looking for a good crumb cake. They are located in the other end of town from our south county location. But, we did look for them on a Saturday drive. Great traditional bakery counter...must have been Pączki Day, so many choices. Those were really good, but the specialty of the day for us was the decorated cookies. ;-)"
"After following then on social media for a while I was excited to visit my daughter working in the STL area!! I was not disappointing. They lived up to the hype, ! OUTSTANDING spot!! From the moment I walked in I was greeted with wonderful customer service!! Display case was organized and well marked. The hardest part was not getting one of everything! On her recommendation, I got the buttery crumb cake. That I’m not ashamed to admit, I ate it in the parking lot with my coffee!! I just couldn’t wait to get h back to the hotel!"
"My daughter and I stopped in this afternoon after hearing about it at another local restaurant. It's such a cozy cafe. The staff was also very friendly. We had sandwiches and then took a loaf of Italian bread to go. The tuna salad sandwich did not disappoint. My daughter's sandwich was a bit too much for her so I got half of that one too. Everything tasted very fresh. I can't wait to try the loaf for dinner tonight."
"I stopped by Helfer's Pastries this morning right about sunrise. They are usually known for their cakes, pies, and decorated cookies but I learned they also sell donuts! I was pleased to see that they have a couple styles of incredibly soft and tasty donuts! Their jelly filled and custard filled are some of my favorites on the tour so far! I was told they have apple fritters on Fridays so you know I'll be back to get one of those!
