"A beautiful landmark historic place from the past. The old bridge isn't safe for traffic but brings the history to the present. Beautiful grounds. Be sure to walk down to the river to fully appreciate the waterfall."

"This is an excerpt from the SPOOM mill registry. GREEN BROS. GRIST MILL, KY-043-001, FALLS OF ROUGH, KY, Updated: 10/2012 Type - Grist Mill, Built - 1823, Powered by - Turbine, Condition - Non-operational. Location: (F 8) On Rough River. Northwest of LEITCHFIELD. 5 miles from Rough River Dam Park, on KY 110. West of Rt. 79 about 2.3 miles. GPS Coordinates: Longitude - 0863312 Latitude - 0373537, Comments: Built in 1823 by Morgan B. Green and brother Willis on land bought by Willis in 1821. The foundation is of cut stone; the rest white clapboards; roofs of tin, now rusted red. The water run under the building built over the dam. The iron wheel mounted on the side (there were two) was probably turned by the water wheel which in turn ground the grain. The mill has been continuously operated by the Green family for 140 years. Farmers from 7 counties brought grain for milling into flour and cornmeal. Part of a 6000 acre farm and timber complex supporting several family owned industries including the grist mill, saw mills, general store and post office. Some of the buildings used to be a school and a church. Nearby is a mansion, now a bed and breakfast. Permission needed to see the mill. Not in Operation. NOTE: A photo of the mill taken in May, 2002, shows the stone foundation of the mill in deplorable condition. The mill may be gone by now.
