"This daycare is currently under new ownership so maybe they are trying to get it right but I would definitely watch EVERYTHING! I should have been skeptical from the beginning because my niece was constantly sick (which can happen in a daycare but it could be cleaned and sanitized better). Then she started having BAD behavioral issues that she did NOT have before starting there. They were constantly asked to not put her with another kid that was acting up. Then they also had teachers that are not trained to deal with children, the rooms have child locks on the doors but are not properly used so the kids can run out and then they blame the kids. They will kick your child out and call them a “liability” when they can’t (don’t want to) handle your child. Don’t bother putting your kids name on the items you send because they will be used on other kids (I would send Huggies diapers and wipes and my son that breaks out would come home with Walmart diapers on). I have had my kids come home with other kids clothes in their backpacks because they don’t put the kids items in their cubbies when the incidents are happening. My kids were not there for a couple weeks and their wipes come up missing from their cubby and I’m sure were used on someone else. I send Huggies sensitive and I guess they got tired of hearing about them and replaced them with Walmart wipes. The kids should be taught something for the prices that are being charged per week. It’s honestly so frustrating!!"
"I worked at Bluegrass for quite a long time up until I graduated and moved to Cincinnati in May. It’s a busy place - lots of chaos with schedules, daily last minute call-ins, and a high staff turnover rate… but for the most part every person there is really just trying to do the best by the kids and love on them while they’re in the classroom. At times it did feel overwhelming being over ratio and the only staff member in a room with kiddos and it happened quite frequently because a coworker didn’t want to come to work that day. It got even harder when the room was comprised of children who have special needs or require excessive amounts of supervision and/or I got placed in a room with children I didn’t know because their primary teacher called in or no-showed. Additionally, I think the expectations for staff have been a bit clouded and convoluted because of the difficulty to find GOOD staff. It’s hard to fully train people that show up in their interviews as dependable and hardworking then decide they don’t like the job and quit one week in. All that to say… I really really loved my job there. I loved my coworkers and I still think about the toddlers in my room frequently because I adored them and cared for them so much. There are staffing difficulties and perhaps too many children enrolled but I think with better trainings/preparation of staff (as well as pay!) the daycare has the potential to be great!! If you’re a parent considering this center for your child I would recommend it! The infant, one, and three year old rooms are especially great. Some advice I’d give is to ask for a tour of the facility, have consistent check-ins with admin, and build a relationship/set clear expectations with the teacher(s) in your child’s room. Also a HUGE impact will be made if you walk your child into the building for drop-off and do the same for pick-up because then you’ll get to know staff!"
"Full time employed single parent of a special needs child. Mornings are unorganized/chaotic, no idea what room your child is going to, whom the teacher will be. Probably 50% of the time it appeared as if the young teacher had too many children in their care. I also picked my child up twice in a room alone and had I not called the daycare or sought out a worker to let them know I was picking him up, they would not have known. (the director alluded to the fact that it was his fault for wondering off during the conversation I mention below). My child attended for 2 years - I received a message to pick him up and to speak with the director. During this impromptu meeting I was notified that my child could not return, at all. There were zero indications that this was coming, no write ups, no conversations… NOTHING. (poor business practice) I think the world of all the young underpaid adults working there doing their best to make it work, they were wonderful with my little one. & I’ll also take a moment to mention that the daycare he just started attending made a point to tell me that if they do not feel as though they can handle him/provide the care he needs - they will in fact give me time to get something else in place. - my rating would be higher had Bluegrass paid me the same courtesy."
"After hearing other experiences, I’m thankful my experience wasn’t as bad as others. I did however have quite a few concerns while my child attended here. I will start by saying that the majority of staff there were pretty friendly, though there were a few who never seemed in a good mood. My biggest complaint were some safety concerns. The very first time I dropped my daughter off, there was a crying child roaming the hall. Luckily an employee was coming in right after me and picked him up and returned him. In the car pick up line, there was very little communication and I was “offered” a child on multiple occasions. One time I even heard a worker asking toddlers what car their parents drove as she walked through the long line of cars. I also was super displeased by how many accidents my daughter had when she was almost fully potty trained. It was surprising because she alerts you and runs straight to the toilet. She has also had zero accidents since being at her new daycare, when she would have multiple in a day here. Another issue was how her stuff always went missing. We’d send a whole pack of diapers (she would wear one a day at nap time,) and they would somehow all be gone by the end of the week. She would sometimes come home in clothes that weren’t even hers. There was very little communication, which was very difficult when my daughter would be absolutely distraught at drop off (she runs right in at her new daycare.) I only wanted to know that she was okay and had calmed down, but I almost never received that luxury. The turnover rate was awful; I never knew who my child was with, and she definitely didn’t know their names. It also didn’t help that you could only come in the center during work hours. As for the car line, it was super inefficient (sometimes I’d wait 15+ minutes) and unsafe. Lastly, I never felt like my issues were actually addressed when we called about them. I’m sure understaffing and a lack of knowledge from staff attributed to most of our issues, but it was still completely unacceptable for a childcare center, and I regret every sending my child there."
"Poor communication all across the board. Counted 8 new people just outside of the building in 3 weeks. High turn over. Not people I trust to leave my kid with. My child always stayed sick and had multiple injuries while attending. Only had 1 teacher we liked with great communication, when she left so did we. She informed me that there were days they wouldn’t feed my child when she was strictly on breast milk and supposed to be fed 4 times a day. We were never allowed in and the one time I managed to sneak in she was sitting in a corner by herself. Over glorified babysitters is all the staff was. Never knew her teachers or their names and that should speak to the turnover situation. Someone I had never seen before just took my word that my child was my child with no check out code or identification. They also tried to give children that were not mine. Came home missing personal items. Never took naps. I could go on and on. Wish more people would post reviews. Just avoid this place."
