"My entire family have been customers for over 25 years. During that time we grew to not only respect but trust M. E. "Gene" Johnson's with all of our car care needs. Not one time did I ever leave the shop feeling taken advantage of nor cheated. Bubba always provided clear and detailed information relative to my vehicle servicing needs and costs. There were never any "unexpected surprise costs." Recently, M. E. "Gene" Johnson's changed owners/management which has been terrible. Their attention to detail; customer service and level of honesty is nonexistant. My interactions with the new management have been frustrating and discouraging to say the least. They exemplify a blatant disrespect for long time customers and are putting profits over customer service. I was up charged; charged for work not needed and for work not done. When I questioned the office worker handling my vehicle he was rude and disrespectful. He cared less about maintaining a good relationship with me as a long time customer. Unfortunately, after 25 plus years with this company I will no longer do business with them. This new staff does not understand the importance of integrity; honesty nor of maintaining good customer relations/interactions. It's saddens me to see the M.E. "Gene" Johnson's people knew and respected disintegrate under this new management."

"I’ve been going to Gene Johnson for a few years now and they are always respectful, helpful and timely. They feel like just an honest neighborhood mechanic. I haven’t ever had any trouble with work they’ve done on my car. Most recently I had to get my car inspected for insurance purposes. I was gearing up to wait a long time as I know they can be busy but Pat was so kind to just come out and give my old Corolla an inspection and then filled out my forms! Thanks Gene Johnson!"

"The previous owners of this place were top notch, but the new owners don’t know what they are doing. Pat told me they’d have it done by the end of the day if I had it there at 7am, a week later it still wasn’t done. I can get past the time delay, but the work they did was sketchy and sloppy. Pat convinced me I needed 2 new tires before they could do the suspension and 2 NEW TIRES WERE PUT ON THE WRONG SIDE, they did the suspension anyway, took it back to put the tires on the right side, said he was embarrassed and assured me if there was anything wrong to just call and they will fix it. He told me he himself has 2 daughters and wouldn’t want them driving an unsafe car. I paid $2600. Drove it out of the parking lot and the brakes were shaky and choppy. Pat was suddenly not willing to stand behind their work, implied I’d have to leave it for another week. No thanks. I wouldn’t even trust them to fix whatever they broke."

"One of Austin’s Treasures. They are TOP NOTCH… Superb place and people!! Cant say enough good! I broke down on 1-35 when my Ford pickup lost her serpentine belt. Scary! No steering, no brakes, elec down in big traffic. AAA came through and I spent the night in their parking lot with my able crew of 7 chihuahuas (yes!!) Hotels were out with this mob so I was dropped here at M.E. Gene Johnson’s Garage where I later met Gene’s capable grandson and the current owner greeted me like the sun at dawn. It was all kid gloves and free coffee after that. WoW! This garage has been here intact since 1947 and the spirit is very friendly. I felt like family. It makes you behave well. 1000% happy with fluids filled, belt repaired, truck ran great=$174.00 I was able to go on and get the pony cart I was after remembering fun treats in the neighborhood including Lazarus Brewing, Omlettery and ‘In and Out Burgers’. Yes… ok also the vape shop had good gummies that made the trip fun."
