Midland Donuts

"Used to come here all the time when my old shop was in midland. The employees were always super friendly and the guy that works on cars is always very nice and talkative especially when you ask about his car pics on the wall. Great stop for a quick breakfast on the way to work."

"Seriously! How does this dump stay in business? First, if it weren’t for Google Maps. I would’ve passed by. The sign is old and faded. And there’s one outside light on the building. There are NO parking lot lights at all. I pull up into the lot and cannot see any parking spot lines. (I guess it didn’t matter; I was their only customer. That should have warned me!) From my spot, I’m facing the side of the building; see the picture I posted. Cardboard boxes plastered along the windows. (Did I miss the hurricane warning??) I walk in. The store proprietor and possibly his wife look up from their donuts. “Someone will be with you in a moment.” At least there was some sort of greeting. The selection is extremely limited. There is the standard fare: glazed and chocolate glazed, as well as an assortment of colorful glazed (in the event some kid walks; yeah, right). There were also some kolaches, but these kolaches looked burned and old. “Can I help you?”, asked the lady. “Good morning,” I said. Nada. Nothing. Ok, I guess, it’s let’s move pass the niceties of conversation so I can get back to making the donuts. I ordered a half dozen glazed and a half dozen chocolate glazed. I decided I was going to try their sugared glazed. It LOOKED good. I mentioned to the smileless lady, “There are no lights in your parking lot.” She looked at me as if I said absolutely nothing. “Do you know that your lights are out in your parking lot?” “I know,” said the lady dryly. “I’m sure you know this, but it’s dangerous not to have any lights,” I concluded. Nothing. Nada. I paid a little of $11 for the donuts. I haven’t kept up with “Donut Inflation”, so I don’t know if this is high or in line with current prices. I take a quick peek beyond the counter at the floor. This is what I really pay attention to these days. You can go to a place like Chick-fil-a and not notice a speck of food on the floor, but this place. Nasty. Had all this food been dropped and spilled since they began their work today? Doubtful. As I walked out, I said “Goodbye,” to see I could get a return departing comment. Nope. I walked out to my car. Again, I could barely see where I was stepping. So dangerous for people who might trip and fall. I started the car and drove away. I opened the bag which contained the sugar-glazed donut. The sugar was sweet, but Lord have mercy! “Did I just bite down on a tablespoon of Crisco oil?” It sure had the consistency and taste of Crisco. Again, how does this place stay in business? There are so many other places to get donuts. This definitely NOT it"
