"Best Gumbo I had so far in Houston, beside the one in New Orleans. The burger also very good, huge portion. Reasonable price Will come back!"

"On a business trip from Austin and wanted some good soul food. Checked out restaurants near me and found Gumbo Mama’s. This place did not disappoint- the gumbo was outstanding, the fried catfish delicious and the piece of cake for dessert was a little slice of heaven. To top it all off was the friendly service, positive energy and conversations from Gumbo Mama herself. She completed the whole dining experience. Will definitely come back."

"What a wonderful surprise for your taste buds at Gumbo Mama! Do not let the location inside a gas station derail you from going! Tina, the owner, is a breath of fresh air. Her food is filled with love and her gumbo and signature hamburger could rival the best in Houston. I don’t really even like burgers because I am so very picky on my flavors. I tried the burger my son ordered and finished the rest of his because he could not finish it…it is HUGE and the most delicious burger I have had in all of Houston…actually anywhere and I am well travelled! I had the seafood gumbo and you feel like your in New Orleans. Fresh, delicious, full of flavor and seafood including crab! My son is at U of H and will be returning and sharing with his friends. She also offers a free piece of homemade cake to new customers and it is only $2.00 for a slice, now that is unheard of anywhere and her cakes are moist and delicious! Thanks Tina for exceptional service and food!! We will be back! (Just for those who are not familiar, seating is at the bar so if you are with a group, I would suggest takeout and have a great meal at home)."

"Authentic creole cuisine. We had the seafood gumbo, shrimp poboy, lemon pecan cake, and German chocolate cake. All amazing... the real deal! What a treat to have authentic Louisiana flavor. Miss Tina even makes her own tartar sauce and it is beyond amazing. Even the fries were great. Attention to detail on every aspect of the food. Highly recommend this hidden gem. Treat yourself, you won't be disappointed! Beyond that, Ms. Tina is an incredibly kind and generous person and gives personal attention to every customer. We will certainly be coming back."
