"It has taken a while for me to get around to this review but I am happy to share. My father was moved to Brown County Health and Living last year. He had battled advanced Parkinsons Disease for over 10 years and after we started the hospice process I knew I wanted to find the right place for him in his last weeks with us. The staff at BCHL were so caring in offering him and us a clean environment and a space to have privacy with him and fellow family members. The staff and nurses were so caring and accommodating. We felt like it was the closest thing to home that we could have imagined. His final days were beautiful and full of love, thank you for offering us this support."

"My mother has been a resident at BCH&L for a year now. The staff is amazing with her and they know her very will. She loves them all. She has a lovely room with a view and enjoys spending time outside in the gazebo area. It brings me comfort to know that I can trust them."

"I am shocked and disgusted at the care I witnessed at this place when I went to visit my 77 year old father a few weeks ago. He had been a resident there for three months. A Vietnam veteran with stage 3 lung cancer. At the time, he was also dealing with pneumonia. I live in NC so I can’t get there often. I first visited on a Sunday. I had heard they were short-staffed especially on weekends. There was one nurse on duty at the time. He wasn’t breathing well so he pressed the nurse call button.. 15 mins later someone walked in… !!!?!?… he finally got a breathing treatment. The nurse said it’s something he had to request. That’s unacceptable. He was unable to ask for himself. That is something that should be scheduled. The next day I went to sit with him all day starting at 10am.. surely they’d have more staff to help that day.. well there was, but EVERY nurse I walked by in the hallway was scrolling on Facebook on their phone or texting (three of them). I had to hunt someone down to give my father a breathing treatment.. no one had checked on him alllllll day… shortly after his breathing treatment around 6pm that evening, he still wasn’t breathing well. Once again, I had to hunt someone down to help. The charge nurse pointed at a nurse that was now on duty and would help my father. When I looked at the nurse on duty, she was standing there typing on her phone and the charge nurse said nothing to her.. finally the charge nurse followed me and checked my dad’s vitals. His oxygen was down to 74% and we had to get him to the hospital… when he arrived at the ER in the VA hospital he was swabbed for MRSA and it was positive. They also broke his Gtube at the nursing home and instead of fixing, just continued to let it leak everywhere when given his nutrition.. the entire place reeked of urine and fecal matter. Lisa was the only one that would give him a bath.. he had maybe three showers during his three-month stay. The entire three months he was there, they told him the tv didn’t work. I found a remote in the top drawer that just needed new batteries. My dad is now on hospice care at his home which apparently he’s better off and at least he’s comfortable and he has someone checking on him. The care at this place is sad and unacceptable. If you have a loved one there, you’re not going to want to leave them alone. Check on them often. These people deserve better."
