"I love my church home. I searched for a long time to find a place I felt comfortable and welcome. I like traditional churches and am so happy I became a member of GPC. I have gotten much more involved than I ever thought I would. There are so many activities going on all the time! A wonderful church family!"

"There are several genuine, caring people here. There are also several people who aren’t very welcoming and who don’t care about including others or listening to different viewpoints. Many in this congregation are over 70 years old, and anyone younger than that is frequently dismissed, looked down upon, looked upon with suspicion, or outright ignored. All of the decisions are made by this over 70 group. Children are not welcome here and are generally seen as a nuisance. I tried many, many times to help grow the church through children’s activities and welcoming new families, but there wasn’t much support for this from the church. Several congregation members were very vocal with their feelings about my and other children in the church (most of whom left before we did). My children were frequently looked upon with suspicion, and congregation members watched them closely to be sure they weren’t doing anything wrong. My children felt extremely uncomfortable here and that they were always going to get in trouble. I had hope when a new pastor was hired, and encouraged the decision makers to consider someone who would welcome new members, but the person they picked is horrible with children. He is very uncomfortable around them. Once he got visibly frustrated/angry with some kids being kids at an event I was in charge of. What they did was minor and did not warrant that reaction. The kids felt very uncomfortable. I was frustrated because new kids had come to this activity and clearly didn’t feel welcome. They didn’t return. Also, his sermons did nothing to help me form a stronger connection with God. They were very academic—more appropriate for a seminary lecture than a church service. I tried to listen, but they were very boring and did not do a good job connecting the Bible to real life. When children’s church was discontinued, my kids sat through the whole service. They were miserable. They are old enough to listen and become engaged in a message in church (we’ve seen that elsewhere), but that did not happen here with this pastor. This church would be appropriate for an older person looking for a temporary church. Since the church does not encourage new and younger people to continue attending, it will likely close in the next several years, unless something dramatically changes."
