Soldier's Memorial Tower

"I lived on South Ave, in Brockport, South Ave ended and turned into a gravel road which led to the vinager works, and a small farm property, further out through the woods and You came out to the Owens Illinois glass factory and Owens rd. Directly across was the Tower. Bricks laid around the base of the Tower from which they had fallen. Inside, more fallen bricks an a metal circular staircase. I was about 13-14 yrs old when I finally was brave enough to walk up the staircase, probably 3/4 of the way, because as you neared the top, the supports had rusted away from the anchors on the wall. Growing up the Tower was a destination to hang out at and no one would bother you. Thanks."

"The memorial is near impossible to see from the road, as it is set back into the woods off the road, behind Brockport Fire Department's newly built fire truck garage. Additionally the land that the memorial resides upon is posted for trespassing. How does one pay tribute to a memorial that is illegal to visit? I'm not sure if the land is temporarily posted due to the recent renovations being done to the tower. Whomever is responsible for managing the memorial and its surrounding land could be helpful to the community by clarifying if this tower will ever be made open to the general public and if so when this will be done."
