"Rather than rally support for one of the VERY FEW Chicago South Side venues catering to the LGBT+ population and its allies - that has managed to stay in business for DECADES - it’s so much easier to bash it. Dysfunction Breeds Discord. I appreciate the resilience of the business and its long history of providing a safe space for mainly Black LGBT+ folks on the South Side. It’s never been upscale but I don’t think it was intended to be. Back in the day, it was a rare watering hole for locals and none ever worried about murder on or near the premises because the neighborhood was quite decent. No more. While I think it’s unfortunate young people no longer have the JP as a convenient spot, they still have the other spot not too far away. I applaud the JP owner for his bold move to make the space safer AND attract patrons who are not caught up in the rap sway. I plan to continue patronizing the business, unless and until I’m given reason to no longer do so."
"The last time I been this hell hole was back in 2012- I never liked the pub because it's too ghetto and unprofessional. I would never step feet back in this hole-in the wall club ever again...Besides, I have no reason to go to this club because I moved from the southside of Chicago years ago. I can't even remember when I had a good time at this place....If I do go to clubs or bars, it's in an upscale neighborhood."
