About the Business

Nasby Dam

Nasby Dam, located in LaGrange, Indiana, United States, is a park within the Pigeon River Fish & Wildlife Area. This institution offers a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities on its expansive 11,794 acres of land, including lakes, impoundments, and a free-flowing river. The diverse habitat of hardwoods, wetlands, and upland fields is home to many endangered species of plants and animals.

Established in 1956, Nasby Dam is part of the larger Pigeon River FWA, which was created from three reservoirs given to the state. Additional land along the river valley has since been acquired, thanks in part to revenues generated from hunting, fishing, and trapping licenses. The property also receives funding from federal programs to aid in fish and wildlife restoration.

Popular activities at Nasby Dam include hunting, fishing, and bird watching. Pit toilets are available on the south side of the main office parking lot, and volunteers are welcome to participate in activities such as trash pick-up and invasive plant removal. For more information, visitors can contact the property office or email PigeonRiverFWA@dnr.IN.gov.

"Pretty cool spot to visit. It is a kayak portage so many people stopping or walking by. Also seen people fishing and sounded like a nice place to do some fishing"

"The grass isn't being cut or burnt back along the edge of the water. Which makes fishing and kayaking challenging."

"Great fishing here. I fished it when I was in the area to visit my grandma, and I got a huge meal of trout, bluegill, and rock bass along with a nice 16" smallmouth that I released. It's a fish every cast if you know what to do"

"Took my grandson to see the dam and put his feet in the water for the first time. He was very impressed with the huge fallen tree. Love the river, love the dam and all of the land around it!"

"This is a fantastic little spot! Very quiet when I was here in the beginning of November 2019. The V damn is very interesting, I've never seen one before. There is a boat put-in and there are hiking trails all around the area. This is also public hunting land so use caution and be aware of the time of year and hunting season."
