Piers Gorge Scenic Hiking Trail - Menominee River State Recreation Area

"Spectacular volume of water down the rapids and over the rock piers in early August. Maybe a half dozen cars in the lot on a lovely Wednesday afternoon. Big lot, so I’d hate to see this place if it were full. Super helpful young lady at the gate. The main trail along the river and side trails are rooty and rocky, but generally not too steep or treacherous unless you go right up to the river bank. Beautiful and fun rocks along the river for fun and picture opportunities."

"This is a beautiful place to hike. The two of us did the hike at a nice enjoyable pace with some short breaks in under two hours. It is located on the Michigan/Wisconsin border in Norway, MI. It is well maintained. You will need a recreational passport to get in. Mine is part of my Michigan license plate renewal price that you request.The young man working the day we were there was very well mannered and a conversationalist. The trail is well marked, just be careful of the tree roots, etc, or if it is a little slippery from rain with damp fallen leaves. There are stops along the way and one stop had a nice bench. It is worth it to do the full hike as it is an amazing when you get to the final view. Stay a bit and enjoy the view. Be careful on the rocks. Watch the kids, etc. You will see plenty of little wildlife and also rafters coming down the river. My suggestion is pack a little lunch or some snacks and always water too. Takes breaks and take in the beauty of this area. Caution: also watch for snakes. Stay on the trail. I have attached some photos. We will return. It is a very nice hike and good fresh air in the north country."

"What a awesome place to visit! The piers are amazing to see and listen to! Amazing to see how nature adapted to this. The trails and rocks are a great place for old and young. Definitely worth stopping and enjoying a little nature, pack some bug spray if you plan on going deeper, might have to come back and explore some more!"
