The Drop In

"[Did you notice half the reviews are about the service fee?] I've been following The Drop In for a while, and was so excited to try for take out. Wish I could give higher reviews.... was it technically a good burger? yes. The bun was sweet and I really liked the pickles. The fries were clearly frozen so had to loose a star. Then, I had to deduct a star for the 20% service fee that was added WITHOUT my knowledge. Again, this is a take out order. I waited 10 min with no one acknowledging me, stood, and they still charged me the fee. When I asked to take it off, they said they couldn't and a tip over 10% on top of that wouldn't be necessary... why would I tip 30% on a take out order? Honestly, it was the lack of transparency and that fact that it wasn't even written on the menu as a courtesy. That to me shows that they really just don't respect their customers to be up front. It is a dive bar, so just lightly dirty across all surfaces, so again has to loose a star. I'm all for spending my money, but these prices are on par with established restaurants with service, ambiance, and an overall more positive experience. So, my little late night craving of 1 burger and 1 fry ended up being $31. Sad I won't be back."

"Impressive operation they got here at the Drop In. Came for a top-notch burger and these guys delivered. This burger was packed with flavor and the quality of ingredients is noticeable. It’s in a small, dark neighborhood bar with an inviting atmosphere. Service was awesome, quick and personable. Really transparent about the 20% service charge which goes to the staff. Happy hour deal is a great value, essentially when you consider the quality of the food."

"Our new favorite burger in Chicago! What a great spot. The staff was wonderful- welcoming and attentive during a very busy afternoon. The burger and fries - perfection. No customization - so manage your expectations (I had to extract the pickles). An outstanding burger in a great spot. We’re thrilled to live within walking distance and wish we’d been by sooner."

"Cool place but definitely a bar atmosphere. You have to order at the bar and the burger and fries come as they are…no substitutions at all! Be prepared to pay a hefty amount for an “ok” burger. The jalapeños are not spicy at all (which is good since you can’t have them removed). Gratuity is also automatically added although there isn’t really a server (kind of a ripoff). You even have to get your own water if you want any. I tried it for all the hype but will definitely not be back again. There are plenty of other much better burger places in the city to go visit. Too bad because I had high hopes for this place."

"Good burger. Price is high. I paid $30 for 1 burger, fries, and soda. So far is my list of top burgers in the area. Specialty: smash burger. If you are a smash burger fan, come here. You will enjoy this burger."
