About the Business

Legal Aid of Western Ohio

Legal Aid of Western Ohio (LAWO) is a non-profit regional law firm located at 1800 North Blanchard Street in Findlay, Ohio, United States. Specializing in civil matters, LAWO provides high-quality legal assistance to eligible low-income individuals and groups in Ohio to achieve self-reliance, equal justice, and economic opportunity. With a focus on protecting the rights of individuals and promoting systemic change in civil rights and poverty law, LAWO has been making justice a reality for over 20 years.

In a time of economic and health uncertainty, LAWO works tirelessly to protect families trying to stay safe and housed. With 14 out of every 100 people living in poverty in their service area, LAWO assists over 70% of people living in poverty who face civil legal problems jeopardizing their families. By partnering with clients and community partners, LAWO addresses issues such as preventing homelessness, protecting renters, supporting veterans and seniors, ensuring access to healthcare and education, promoting financial fairness, and amplifying the voices of marginalized communities.

LAWO's Pro Bono Program engages volunteer attorneys and law firms to provide legal assistance to low-income individuals across their service area. With offices in Dayton, Defiance, Findlay, Lima, Sandusky, Springfield, and Toledo, LAWO serves 32 northwest and west central Ohio counties. Additionally, LAWO's Agricultural Worker Program extends its services to all 88 counties in Ohio.

To ensure accessibility for all, LAWO offers translation services for publications. For more information on how to get involved in their Pro Bono Program or to request translation services, please contact Estela Melendez at emelendez [at] ablelaw.org.
