About the Business

Brandywine Falls

Brandywine Falls is a stunning 60-foot waterfall located at 8176 Brandywine Road in Northfield, Ohio. This popular tourist attraction can be accessed via a partially accessible boardwalk, which may be closed during icy conditions. The falls are open daily from dawn to dusk, but visitors are advised to avoid peak times due to limited parking.

The Brandywine Gorge Loop trail, a 1.5-mile path that starts near a bed & breakfast, allows visitors to explore beyond the waterfall and offers views of the gorge and creek. The trail is particularly beautiful in the spring when vernal pools attract breeding salamanders. The area is also known for its seasonal changes, such as fall colors and winter ice formations.

The geological features of Brandywine Falls are a sight to behold, with layers of rock including Berea Sandstone and Bedford and Cleveland shales creating a bridal veil effect as the water cascades down. The boardwalk and steps provide a close-up view of the waterfall and the sandstone, which dates back millions of years.

The area surrounding Brandywine Falls has a rich history, with early settlers utilizing the waterfall for its water power. The Village of Brandywine once thrived around the mills built near the falls, but much of it has since been lost to development. The James Wallace house, now a bed & breakfast, is one of the few remaining structures from that era.

Overall, Brandywine Falls is a must-visit destination in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, offering natural beauty, historical significance, and a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

"A very picturesque waterfall, with the trail to and from it being very short but not accessible for those with disabilities. Connects very easily to many other trails here if you're wanting a longer hike like we did."

"Very easy boardwalk path out to the falls. There is a flat option to see the falls from the top and a lower option with stairs to get a little closer for a better view. With a baby and two dogs it was an easy waterfall to visit. The dogs were a little scared coming up the stairs but they did OK."

"Beautiful falls- even with the drought, there's a decent waterfall!- and a beautiful place in general. If you just want to see the falls, the path is all a wooden boardwalk. You can see the falls from the bottom by taking a bunch of stairs, or from the top by following the flat boardwalk. I think it's great that people of any mobility levels have options to see the falls! If you want to extend your walk, you can follow the loop around (the Stanford loop) for a total of about 1.5 miles. This includes the boardwalk, some of the bike trail, and hiking through the woods."

"It’s a beautiful falls and the hike around this falls is a pretty good workout. It takes us up and downhill. Loved the hike at this place. We enjoyed some places around the hike with the water flow, took time to sit down there and have some relaxation. If you are doing the just the falls, it’s has some pretty good steps to go down and up."
