Reviews
"The camp sites are very nice. Each has facilities. There is also firewood available. There are well maintained walking trails, horse trails across the road, a catch and release fishing pond and a lodge which can be rented for events. The park is beautiful and is actually not terribly well known. I've literally lived two miles away for almost 2 yrs and only just discovered it. It is also very close to The Land Of Illusion theme park."
"Beautiful place for a walk, primitive camping, or just a place to collect yourself."
"Beautiful. Clean. Lots to explore and find."
"All of the Five River's MetroParks are decent parks. They all offer a good bit of nature and several have nice water features. Unless you are a horse rider though, this park is shy on the water (all the trails near Twin Creek are horse trails). The southern section of Twin Creek is the old Camp Hook Boy Scout camp. For those who want to go down memory lane to their days at Camp Hook, there are some features of the camp still available. The "Trading Post" is still standing, but not being used. The old pump house is hiding in the woods. The chapel is still there, though in disrepair, and the shooting range shelter is there as well. They have also preserved the flag poles and amphitheater, though the fence behind the amphitheater is falling down the hill. You can even spot an occasional large stone fireplace in the woods if you look carefully. Gone are most of the buildings, camp sites, water tower (pump house remains), pool (filled in), stairwell and suspended bridge, and the convenience of running water. There are still campsites that can be used. They are primitive with no electric and water but they do have privies. Sadly the parks dept. decided to remove most of the camp's features when they took over the land. Since they still allow camping (with permit), it's a shame - it could have been a great metropark camp ground, but it is not. This is one of the few parks in the area that has large white pine trees. They are old and fading though - very little new evergreen forest seems to be replacing it - deciduous trees seem to be taking over."
