The Christian & Emma Goetz Buzzardroost Rock Trailhead is a popular tourist attraction located in Lynx, Ohio, United States. This park is part of the Edge of Appalachia Preserve System and offers visitors the chance to experience Ohio's most spectacular view from the hilltop overlooking Ohio Brush Creek. The trail to Buzzardroost Rock is the most popular in the preserve, leading hikers through diverse plant communities and geological formations.
The 465-acre protected area is home to a variety of rare plant species and provides habitat for turkey and black vultures, which can often be seen soaring above the rock. Visitors can enjoy hiking, birdwatching, and wildlife watching while taking in the breathtaking views of the forested hills from the overlook.
The trail to Buzzardroost Rock is 4.4 miles round-trip and is moderately difficult. Hikers are encouraged to allow at least two to three hours for the hike to fully appreciate the natural features along the way. Please note that there are no facilities available on the trail, so visitors should come prepared.
The Nature Conservancy, which owns the preserve, is dedicated to protecting the natural treasures of Ohio's Appalachian foothills. "Easy to moderate out and back trail (about 4.5 miles in total) with a nice view at the end of the trail. We encountered a lot of wildflowers, butterflies, and birdsong on our visit in late May."
"Skip this trail and go strait to the triple falls trail head. The first 3 miles your walking right next to the highway and the sound is like being under an overpass for an hour and a half. The falls are neat, bring a suit and the hike to the top is steep and not kid friendly."
"This is a very nice hike if you're looking for an easy 5 miles. The views are spectacular once you get to the end of the trail. The directions are pretty spot on when using Google maps but be mindful of the sign. You may miss it. There is some paved parking off the main road but it is only large enough for about six cars. Be mindful of others when parking. The trail is well maintained and an easy 5 plus miles with an elevation change of maybe 860 feet or so. I would encourage you to check the recent weather. If rain, bring trekking poles. You still may want to bring one even if the rain wasn't too recent. The trail is well hidden by the hills and trees. Implying the trail may never dry out. You will also find treated wood bridges which were very slippery. They do have some benches if you need to rest. All in all this is a very nice hike. Enjoy your adventure."
