"I am an early aviation junkie. My grandfather built a flying machine near Toronto, CA in 1913 and actively flew until 1939 when he took a job at Bell Aircraft in 1939. I have visited the Wright Brothers Memorial at Kill Devil Hills in NC and have read about the years in Dayton and Huffman Prairie following their success powered flights in 1903 as they perfected controlled, heavier than air, flight. It is my next visit on my early aviation story journey."
"Close your eyes for a few seconds, and get ready for a journey in history. The birthplace of aviation, it is a must see for someone visiting the area who likes aerospace. This is the field that the Wright Brothers learned how to fly and improve their plane. There are no facilities. But the replica looks like real and you feel the history. There is also Hoffman Prairie State natural landmark. This 112-acre grassland Is a remnant of the past, and home to plants and animals of the Ohio prairies."
"So cool to be at the very first airport where the Wright brothers made history! The area is lovely with wildflowers and walking paths. You can explore the starting apparatus as well as the little airport where they worked on new strategies for flight. There were a lot of bugs and very little opportunities for shade so bring sunscreen, bug spray, and water!"
"Take Communications Blvd off of Hwy 444 to get to this historic location. Also find the Huffman Prairie State Natural Landmark at the same location...a bonus for your visit The prairie is beautiful with wildflowers, birds, and butterflies in the summer. A well kept path winds through the prairie. 2020 Update...Field and Prairie are open, the wild flowers are very nice this year around the hanger. The grounds are pretty well maintained. The hanger has a number of barn swallows...quite harmless, but they can't tell an early 1900s airplane hanger from a barn."
