"Hueston woods is a great place to spend the day with the family. They have an awesome new nature center and plenty of fun things to do. There's the beach (no lifeguard on duty), playground, boat rentals, hiking, many picnic areas with grills, a camp ground, a quarry, and a covered bridge. I've been going here since I was a kid."
"Houston Woods takes a great care of their beach... Daily during the summer they clean the sand of any goose droppings... The water is clean and the restrooms are well maintained... I am not certain if they still have a concession in this area due to covet... It has not been open for a little while.. there are many hiking trails around and near the beach.. The beaches enjoyable any time of year and they also have a playground for the kids.. I recommend any and everything at Houston Woods..."
"The beach is unguarded, and they don't have a swimming area roped off so you won't wander out in the deep water. One family had a big inflatable duck float and some pool noodles. While the kids were swimming with the noodles, their duck decided to float away. The mom offered $5 for somebody to go get it. By that time, it was halfway across the lake and speeding away. Nobody went to get it. If a kid had been on it, who knows how far away he would be when someone finally found him?"
