In Step With Horses

In Step With Horses is a health institution located at 7212 Wilson Mills Road in Chesterland, Ohio, United States. Our goal is to help individuals rediscover their unique strengths and build a balanced life through personalized sessions. We offer a wide range of programming for members of the military and first responders free of charge. Whether you have always wanted to work with horses or are curious about how they can help, we offer affordable one-day experiences for schools, organizations, and families to come out and work with our horses.

Our mindfulness and learning activities empower participants to make healthy connections and address challenges, with additional support and insight provided through hands-on work with our horses guided by equine professionals. Lessons are 45-minute sessions with experienced instructors, allowing time for grooming and caring for your horse before and after the ride.

Horses are excellent therapy partners, as they instinctively read our emotions and intentions, providing open and honest feedback. Their ability to connect with people and mirror actions and feelings makes them great therapeutic partners. As prey animals, horses are experts at reading and reacting to body language, nonverbal cues, and energy, making them uniquely gifted at supporting individuals who have experienced emotional and physical pain.

Our team is dedicated to helping individuals uncover their strengths and rebalance their lives through a partnership with animals and nature. We are a trauma-informed organization engaging participants in sensory-based and mind-body activities with the support of carefully selected therapy horses. Our therapists are trained in various evidence-based psychological interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and trauma processing methods.

We tailor our services to fit the unique needs of our clients, starting with an assessment. Some of our providers accept insurance for psychotherapy services, and we are happy to discuss pricing for all services with you. Financial assistance is available. Our horses are carefully selected and trained to become therapy horses, each with a unique personality that can help clients move towards their goals. Clients are often drawn to a particular horse, and sometimes the horse appears to ask, "Do you want to work with me?"
