About the Business

Oscar Scherer State Park Campground

Oscar Scherer State Park Campground, located in Nokomis, Florida, is a hidden oasis surrounded by urban areas. The campground offers a refreshing escape into natural Florida, with 15 miles of trails providing solitude, beauty, and adventure for visitors. The park plays a crucial role in the preservation of the Florida scrub-jay habitat and is home to nesting bald eagles in the winter. Lake Osprey and South Creek are popular spots for anglers, swimmers, canoers, and kayakers.

Please note that sections of the Red Trail are closed during American Bald Eagle nesting season, and campground restroom No. 2 is currently closed for construction. Canoe and kayak rentals are also unavailable at this time. Despite these limitations, Oscar Scherer State Park remains a worthwhile stop for travelers and a favorite spot for the surrounding community. Visitors can also enjoy special events like the Haunted Trails in October and participate in the 5-k run to support the endangered Florida Scrub Jay.

"Nice park. Not really large RV friendly. Water and power hookups were bad. The Halloween event was very enjoyable."

"We spent 11 nights here in May 2023! Beautiful place, lots of wildlife, excellent service, Joel at nature center was very informative about the area and displays in the center. Registration folks were great as well. Very clean restrooms, in fact the white area was clean and tidy. Easy to get into spaces, plenty of room and shade. Absolutely wonderful."

"I've stayed here atleast three times and always have an enjoyable time. The sites are mostly private and spacious. However, Ian has made some alittle less shady in his wake. The paths are great and we saw an eagle nest and eagle soaring."

"We stayed here 3 nights (two different sites) primarily for access to the Legacy Trail. No sewer hook-ups. The first site was extremely tight for our 36 foot motorhome. Sites are fairly secluded - all pine needles and sand. Restrooms are dated, but very clean. Nice place if you like woodsy camping, although no campfires were allowed."

"My family and I have camped here several times over the years and love it. The sites are nice size, some have more shade than others, and well maintained. There are a few handicapped sites as was as tent only sites. Each RV/tent camping sites come with a picnic table, water & electric hook up and a firepit. There is a playground inside the camping area as well as one by the lake, where swimming is allowed, and one near the canoe launch site. There are some nice walking and bike riding trails through out the park, usable to both campers and day users. Great place to spend the day, camping or not. There is a nice large covered Pavillion with a grill by both the lake and launch areas. This park has a lot to offer for people who love the outdoors. Camping, swimming, fishing, bike riding, bird watching, hiking, relaxing and so much more. We can't wait to go back in a few months."
