"Beautiful forest, just wish the hunters were a bit more compliant with only hunting during hunting season, I've had more than one occasion I've come across hunters who were rather upset with me, even though deer season had been long over. It doesn't happen all the time, but it is always scary because you never know how someone will react when you come across them in the woods and they're doing something illegal"
"I stopped at the Hurricane Lake North Recreation Area the other day. It's a nice spot with a great lake view. There's a couple of picnic tables and a boat launch at the day use area, it's mostly for camping though. My original plan was to walk the Florida Trail from the lake out to the Blackwater River then back. Unfortunately from within the recreation area, the tail is very poorly marked, and the information board didn't provide any help. It did recommend wearing bright colors during hunting season. I didn't have anything bright to wear, and after starting down what I thought might be the tail, I saw some young deer and thought perhaps it wasn't the best idea to go for a hike wearing a tan jacket in an area where hunting is allowed and deer present during hunting season. I returned to the recreation area, discovered the tail is clearly marked at the entrance road, just outside the gate, and got in my car to drive home. The lake is beautiful, I'd like to go back to enjoy it more, and next time bring appropriate attire for hiking in hunting season."
