"The Sailing Center membership concept is awesome but the reality isn't great. An inexpensive Sailing Center membership gets you access to Ideal 18 sailboats after you've passed a proficiency test. You can use the boats anytime between 8 am and 5 pm Tuesday through Sunday as long as the wind is between 5 mph and 15 mph. The problem is that the Sailing Center shares docks with the St Peterburg Yacht Club. SPYC sponsors regattas more than half of the weekends in Feb-Apr. When the regatta boats are going out or coming in, Sailing Center members don't have access to the docks. So, in the spring, you can really only sail during the week before 5 pm. I'm hoping that it isn't as inconvenient in the summer and fall. We'll see. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Learn-to-Sail class with Allison Jolly. She's a great teacher, both in the classroom and on the water."
