"On Monday July 3, 2023 I had out-patient laparoscopic inguinal (and apparently unnecessary umbilical) hernia repair at Lakewood Ranch Minimal Invasive Surgery by Dr. David Napoliello. While I was told by Dr. Napoliello I would go home the day of surgery and be up and feeling better in a day or two, the opposite happened. The day after surgery I felt badly, nauseous with sore and bloated belly. Three days after Dr. Napoliello’s out-patient hernia repair surgery I called his office and complained to Dr. Napoliello that I was getting worse instead of better and that my inguinal hernia bulged out as big as ever. Three days after this on Sunday July 9, I was rushed to the emergency room at Sarasota Memorial, Venice and then transferred to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota for exploratory abdominal surgery the next morning, Monday, July 10. Wednesday July 26, 2023 at my post-operation check-up from my Sarasota Memorial Hospital emergency abdominal surgery, my Sarasota Memorial Hospital surgeon told me the following: That at my open abdominal surgery 16 days previous he discovered Dr. Napoliello had neglected to close the peritoneum after he repaired my inguinal hernia, so the SMH surgeon sutured the peritoneum closed. the SMH surgeon also discovered the mesh Dr. Napoliello placed at my alleged umbilical hernia had not been tacked or fastened at all, and seemed unnecessary, so SMH surgeon removed this mesh. I had never seen any sign I ever had an umbilical hernia and believe Dr. Napoliello’s umbilical hernia repair was uncalled for and unnecessary. Today, a month after what was to be a minimally invasive out-patient procedure, I continue a long and painful recovery."
