"Avoid this dr. chee-awai at all costs. He's rude, uninformed and worst of all, not very knowledgeable about urology compared to another urologist I saw in Miami (Dr. Garcia-Montes). You are much better off researching quality urologists in a nearby county. This guy is definitely not worth your time at all."

"An Open Letter to Ronald Chee-Awai, MD (FL) One year ago, we were forced to confront a grief none of us should have faced so early. We mourned the sudden and unexpected loss of a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, with the sour aftertaste of your name in our mouths. You were supposed to be the expert, you were supposed to use your talents to heal; instead your bedside manner got in the way of critical treatment. You ignored reasonable and timely inquiries from the family. You refused to look our family nurse in the eye and agree to what we all know now could have been life saving interventions. But you maintained, despite her recent sepsis and hospitalization, and our concern over a continued bacterial infection, that she would be okay. We called you and other healthcare providers previously involved with her care at the hospital to request new cultures to ensure the infection was gone after her initial treatment for sepsis. No one could intervene on her behalf, however, because she was solely under your care at that time. You denied us and everyone else who asked. So, when she was retested in preparation for her outpatient surgery, and the results came back positive with the same bacteria, you guaranteed that you would administer adequate antibiotics and that she would tolerate the procedure well. We trusted you. And then she went septic, for the second and final time. In your haste, you had prescribed an inadequate antibiotic, of which she only had time to take one dose before the surgery. An infectious disease doctor later confirmed that the procedure should have never taken place given the inadequate treatment and present bacterial infection. It wasn’t until she passed out in recovery that you engaged with us. It wasn’t until it was too late, in the ICU, that you admitted the procedure reactivated her sepsis, a consequence which the medical community acknowledges senior citizens are more at risk. It wasn’t until after our loved one woke from her comatose state and made the decision to end her suffering and deny further treatment, that you even looked us in the eye. Her healthcare providers in the ICU acknowledged that you made the wrong choice. We hope you never put another family through this. We hope you lost days and weeks of sleep over this mistake. We hope when you walk into a room, you look the patient and their family in the eyes; you need to remember who it is that your decisions impact. We hope that when a patient, their loved ones, and your own medical team, have doubts about the next step forward, you listen. We all know the respiratory failure listed on her hospice discharge was inaccurate, and you will live the rest of your life with that burden. Because you know the truth. We do, too. And although we refuse to let your name live in our household, we know that you’re the reason we grieve so soon."

"I wasn't impressed at all. First visit was ok then downhill from there. He wouldn't do my biopsy..... all he always said is you need to go to moffit. Not an option for several reasons. We have an amazing Cancer institute right here. Amazing dr.s & staff. Also found an amazing urologist/ ongologist not far away. I am blessed to have the Dr's. I now have. ..."
