"Nothing connects you to home quite like food. But not just any food—meals that nourish your soul and envelop you in comfort. If you're fortunate enough to discover a place where the first bite whisks you back to your hometown, then you've found something truly special. Last Sunday (01.14.24), amidst a busy workday, my husband and I took a detour on our way to the shop and stumbled upon 'Mochima Bistro.' Despite reading glowing reviews, the reality surpassed both words and images. It's a small yet cozy haven, reminiscent of a parlor in Mochima or any Venezuelan Caribbean eatery. The staff, friendly and attentive, serve with pride and respect, delivering the most delectable Venezuelan cuisine. The ambiance is a delightful blend of minimalism and vibrant colors, accompanied by a soundtrack so good I had to inquire about the artist for a Spotify playlist. Their empanadas boast diverse fillings—I opted for the Pelua (shredded meat with gouda cheese) paired with a Passion Fruit Juice (pure foodgasm!). Meanwhile, my husband indulged in pastelitos (beef and cheese with potatoes) alongside a Maltin Polar. Everything is freshly prepared, with fillings ranging from typical Venezuelan choices to unique options like Sifrina (shredded chicken and gouda cheese) or Pelua. Arepas mirror these mouthwatering fillings, with the option to add the famous Reina Pepiada. The drink selection is equally enticing, from freshly made juices to papelon con limon and, if available, the delightful Chicha. While we didn't try the soups, glimpses through pictures suggest they're extraordinary. As you wait for your food, enjoy complimentary coffee—an unexpected but welcomed touch. Whether dining in (considering its cozy size, it might fill up quickly) or opting for takeout, the experience bestowed upon your taste buds is nothing short of extraordinary. In terms of value for money, Mochima Bistro is an absolute steal—it's worth every penny. The young lady who appears to be the owner or chef is a sweetheart, making your experience incredibly welcoming. Operating from Tuesday to Sunday starting at 8:30 am, orders can be placed through Uber Eats, their website, or by calling (Josbert is fantastic at taking orders). Closing time is usually at 5 pm, except for Sundays when they close at 2:30 pm. I wholeheartedly invite you to experience Mochima Bistro. It's a local gem that deserves to be known, tasted, and cherished."
"Alright!!!! I can't lie...I was a little doubtful. I'm very picky when it comes to the "masa" of the empanadas. Well...this family-owned and run restaurant has THE BEST Venezuelan empanadas in the Cutler Bay area. Definitely one of my favorite spots. It has become one of our go-to places for a hand-held, all-in-one, complete meal in a 25" delicious filled empanada. Oh my gosh, my mouth waters just thinking about it lol. This family has mastered the "masa" to a "T!" I haven't tried any of their other meals but I will, absolutely, be going back to try all (not on the same day lol) of the fillings for the empanadas. I hear the cazon are a hit."
"This Mochima Bistro is a place like your sisters’ aunt's or mom's or grandmother's house. The food has that family flavor with natural ingredients and a lot of love. If you do not have the time to go there...you can order and you will receive in a back seal. Everything is delicious."
"I recently dined at Mochima Bistró, a Venezuelan restaurant, and was thoroughly impressed. The interior boasted a charming decor that created a pleasant dining atmosphere. I went for the Arepa Chicken Bowl, which was a delightful combination of shredded chicken, beans, eggs, plantains, and a delicious arepa. Apart from the delectable dishes, the customer service was exceptional. The staff greeted us warmly upon our arrival, enhancing the overall experience. Mochima Bistró is undoubtedly a must-visit for those seeking both flavorful cuisine and excellent hospitality."
