Skillets - Bradenton - School House Plaza

"12/04/23 Breakfast. We dropped off our 5th wheel for repairs, leaving us an hour to eat. We ducked into Skillets, hoping for a quick meal before meeting a church member who offered to drive us 2 hours (one way) to Tampa International. We were leaving for Puerto Rico this morning. Our breakfast came out fast, hot and good! The service was great. The food was about average, which for this part of Florida is nothing bad. The food here has been pretty good across the board, so saying our meal was typical for the area is good! But the potato pancakes were excellent. That made the meal for me. Today's meal was average, unless you like potato pancakes (like I do), then it was very good. Excellent: Uniquely satisfying. A special place. Very Good: Better than expected. Average: An everyday experience. Just OK. Fair: Below par. Dirty smells. & / or flies."

"I feel like this place is a hit or miss. Some dishes are super great and others are absolutely horrible. I know everyone has different taste buds, so take this review with a grain of heart, but some traditional items on their menu were just a bit too whacky for my taste. The oatmeal is great and so are the baked items (scones and biscuits). Their simple dishes are average (anything with eggs and your pick of meat and carbs is safe). With that being said, I tried the skillet and the biscuits and gravy and they were both far from good. The skillet was shocking because I was no expecting *basically* mashed potatoes to be the base of the dish. Ordering any kind of soft-cooked egg (sunny side up, over easy, etc.) with this is a BAD DECISION bc it turns into a mushy, purée-esque consistency. The taste/texture was barely edible but because I literally didn't even have to chew it, it was easy to swallow. The biscuits and gravy, while the biscuits were good, the gravy was tasteless and cold. I've been here twice to test out different dishes to see if I could enjoy it and I think this time was my last. Some might enjoy this but I just feel like there are so many better breakfast restaurants in the area."

"We had a great experience here. Our server Leanna was great. We are gluten-free and dairy free and she was patient with helping select what we could have. I had the chicken tacos and side of hash browns. It was really good with a corn shell. Unfortunately the corn taco was the only gluten-free wrap or bread. Something that is typical in this area. Gave it 4 stars on food only because of the limited GF and dairy free selections. Other wise the food and service and value was great. Best breakfast /diner place we have been to. We definitely will be back!"

"ZACHARY B was superior in providing us a remarkable experience here at Skillets! Welcoming energetic optimistic well spoken friendly had a great knowledge of the variety the menu has as well as provided great detail with the questions we had! Even had a couple jokes! Made us feel comfortable & rest assured on our decision! The food itself was flavorful and delicious! Not greasy not light but just enough in every area to make it good & leave ya full! The orange juice with the frozen glass is a creative & terrific touch, it was refreshing! Love the outdoor seating as well with fans above to keep the air circulating. Amazing experience highly recommend and can’t wait to come back!"
