"Was there helping a family member with couple overnight stays for treatment. After going to ER and being admitted. While in the ER the nurse that was assisting patient seemed to be fairly new or uncomfortable in the position. Family member Requested assistance to reposition themselves on the ER stretcher for comfort ..while waiting on physician .. The Nurse reluctantly replied..(. to family member that is sticky build male senior citizen w bad leg creating limited mobility function . ) '" You will need to try to move your body w your arms to adjust yourself.. I can't move you..I will break my back . If I attempt to move you.." I am very aware that a draw sheet is used to reposition patients w limited mobility. And offered to assist Nurse w draw sheet reposition of family member. She basically ignored the offer to assist her.. And never attempted to ask for help from any other ER staff to assist w reposition for comfort of patient while waiting several hours to be checked and admitted into the Hospital. Requested several times for patient to receive a bedside bath as they were unable to get out of bed .per Dr orders. Restroom access was limited due to condition. So bedside assistance was needed in caring for family member. Had to request that patient be changed to fresh undergarments.. (Due to being unchanged for the entire three days ).. Even though the family member had assistance using the toiletries for a bedridden patient, No one attempted to change or bathe them when they assisted . Patient was smelling strongly of urine bc undergarments were not changed regularly. I had to request that family member receive clean depend undergarment, before the issue was acknowledged or addressed. Also requested a bedside bath or assistance for shower bathing of patient several times, due to strong odor of urine being present. We were constantly told" in few minutes we will get to you." The family member is very modest about their body being seen by female family members. So unfortunately,I was not able to be of assistance to patient .Family member was there 2nights /3 full days discharged at 4pm the last day. Patient NEVER received assistance getting bathed during the stay. Was assisted w dressing ..and discharged w strong odor of urine remaining on their body. I can't understand...how the patient required assistance from the staff to perform toileting functions each time...YET no one took the initiative to assist patient properly w changing soiled undergarment while assisting w toileting from bed. Nor did patient receive help w personal hygiene to eliminate strong urine odor while assisting w toileting. Patients request for bathing several times was never addressed before discharge. Even as patient was assisted to get dressed at discharge , no initiative was taken to fulfill patient request for help bathing to wash away strong urine odor, creating a hygiene issue. Patient was dressed in clean clothing and discharged smelling strongly.. And very noticeable to other people. You can rest assured it was rectified promptly. upon arriving to patients home . Pitiful treatment for patient.. Hospital cleanliness not the best either. Very Dissatisfied w the service/ assistance given to the patient from Nursing. No complaints w Physician Team or treatment plan for patient. Knowledgeable Physician Team . Patient had quick Recovery following the Physician plan of care. No complaints there. TY for having knowledgeable treating Physicians."
