Home Grown Fabrics is a unique store located at 2318 County Road 97, Flat Rock, Alabama, United States. Specializing in alpaca wool, our institution offers a wide range of high-quality, eco-friendly yarn in a variety of colors. Alpacas produce some of the most desirable fleece, known for its lightweight, durable, warm, and soft qualities. Our alpaca wool is naturally hypoallergenic, fire-resistant, water-resistant, and tear-resistant, making it a valuable and unique material for all types of projects and textile art.
Our process begins with the shearing of alpacas once a year, followed by skirting to remove any impurities from the fleece. The wool is then tumbled, washed, picked, and carded to prepare it for spinning. We offer spinning services using drop spindles, spinning wheels, or can also send the fibers to a mill for processing. The finished yarns can be used for weaving, knitting, crochet, or other crafts.
In addition to our high-quality yarn, we also offer hand-dyed alpaca skeins in a variety of colors. Using food-based dyes such as Kool-Aid or chemical-based dyes, we create vibrant and unique color combinations. Our dyeing process ensures that the colors are set and will not wash out after use.
