R. Shaefer Heard Park is a beautiful waterfront campground located on the southern shore of West Point Lake in West Point, Georgia. This serene park offers 117 sites with electricity and water hookups, as well as amenities such as hot showers, a boat ramp, and hiking trails. The campground overlooks the 25,900-acre lake, surrounded by rolling fields and deep forests that showcase stunning fall foliage.

West Point Lake, spanning parts of Alabama and Georgia, is a popular destination for fishing, boating, camping, and other recreational activities. With 525 miles of shoreline, the lake offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor fun. Visitors can enjoy a variety of amenities at the 25 day-use parks around the lake, including tennis courts, ball fields, fishing piers, hiking trails, and picnic shelters.

Boating enthusiasts will love exploring West Point Lake, which has numerous boat ramps and two full-service marinas. Fishing is also a favorite pastime on the lake, with plenty of bass, catfish, crappie, and bream to be caught. "Lots of different campsites to choose from. They have a few that are doubles, so if you have family coming with another rv or camper then these would be in your favor to reserve. Our site on the lake was just right! The entrance/exit gate is padlocked at 10pm. So if you have to go to work early, then you need to park outside of the locked gate. They didn't take too kindly to us waking them up at 5am to leave. But they let us out. Just remember don't call that number unless it's an emergency, working is not an emergency they told us!"
