"Staff here is amazing! Here’s why: I had an oil change done at another business (had a coupon for it) and while at that place, I mentioned I needed a look at my check engine light that was on. I was trying to get things situated to pass emissions test. Silly me, I should have checked what the cost would be for that beforehand. But they changed oil and checked the codes etc., called me back and explained several things that seemed wrong with my car based on codes and that they would have to take apart the manifold amongst other things (I am not a car person, so wrote it down as they told me) to see what was causing the errors. They ended up stating that all this to check the issue would be over $1,000. Of course, like most people in this economy, I would not be able to afford that. Instead I paid for the diagnostic and oil change so total was $170 which seemed way higher than I expected a diagnostic to be since the coupon was less than $30 for the oil change. Maybe that’s the norm? I don’t know. I was stressed over not being able to afford to fix my car in time just to pass emissions by end of the month. I went to this Mr Tire location and asked for a second opinion. I showed the paperwork from the other place, and the manager Nate stated the other business did not give enough information to describe the issue, which was what my diagnostic paid for, so he let me know the business charged me for information they did not even provide me. I was glad he explained that, so I called the business for more detail and they emailed me back some paperwork that was still too vague. Nate said they would need to do their own diagnostic as they would need to look at the issue for themselves since the other business could not explain the problem, which I totally understood. Nate said they do diagnostics for $99 which was way below what the other place charged. He also said for future reference, if I get a coupon for oil change from another business that I can bring it to them and they would match it, which is wonderful to know. I thanked him and left my car for them to look into it when they had the chance. After they finished the diagnostic, one of the mechanics gave me a call and said all he needed to do was take a look at some spark plugs and finagle a few bits and that ended up clearing the codes. He said the code read it could be a Cat converter problem, which would be expensive, but that the car drove fine and that I wouldn’t need to get that done unless I have issues while driving. He said the codes were cleared and didn’t seem to be as drastic of an issue as the other business made it seem. He said I should be fine to take for emissions and pass for tag renewal. I thanked him and picked up my car. When I went to pay them for their diagnostic, they ended up not even charging me, saying not to worry about it! I was so appreciative that they not only were able to clear the codes and make sure all was well for emissions, but didn’t even charge me for their assistance and were so helpful and friendly at explaining how they fixed the issues, especially for a non-mechanically minded person like me. If I had went with what the other business told me, I would have spent my whole rent money on diagnostics and repairs I didn’t even need. These guys at Mr Tire were so wonderful for not trying to take advantage of my naïveté, and even saved me from paying for even more diagnostics. I passed my emissions and told them if I have any future issues I will definitely be using their service and recommending them to friends. These guys are so wonderful and I will be happy to give them my business in the future :)"
